1st ODI: Sri Lanka vs England at Dambulla

First match of this series is underway.

Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first. They are 2/106 in the 22nd over. Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga are the top scorers with 41 and 40 respectively bu they are both out. Tharanga fell about 15 mins ago.

Phil Mustard is making his ODI debut for England as the keeprr due to Matt Prior being injured. Graeme Swann is also into the side as the spinner.

very subdue runrate for the Lankans but it seems to be picking up now to a respectible 4.73.

I would have thougt that they would be over 5 against an attack lacking firepower.

Have they got Galle back up and running yet?

Run Rate is exactly 5 right now. ;)

3/175 after 35 overs. Mahela Jayawardene is 39 not out.

Mahela Jayawardene is out for 66, falling to a catch by Owais Shah.

4/225 after 43.1 overs. They'll be aiming for about 280 here. Silva is 31 and needs to stay until the end.

Sri Lanka finished 269-7

Mustard looked good opening, scoring a fast 27, but he's out now, and Bell and Pietersen contributed nothing before they fell too. Maharoof has all 3 wickets.

Cook and Collingwood are at 65-3 after 16 overs. The required rate is up over 6 already. England probably need these two to stick around for another hour if they're going to have a chance to win.

England 101-5 after 25. Collingwood and Shah are both out.

They're going to have to work really hard if they still hope to win.

Going to be tough from here.

6/108 now although the last time England played at the ground they were bowled out for a pathetic 88, so at least they can say they've made an improvement.

Alistair Cook has tried hard with his 46 but was just dismissed by Farveez Maharoof who now has four wickets. Ravi Bopara is still there and has seven runs.

Cook is finally out for 46, that's Maharoof's fourth.

Dilshan picks up Swann who reverse sweeps to backward point and then Stuart Broad is run-out on the very next ball for one, trying to come back for a second run.

8/145 after 32 overs. Bopara is 24 not out.

That over has ruined England, they were keeping up with the required rate and both batters were playing well but an unnecessary shot has proven to be their downfall and then the run-out just added insult to injury.

And that's the end of that, England all out for 150.
Sri Lanka won by 119 runs.
