1st Test: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Dunedin

The first test is well underway with New Zealand hosting Bangladesh.

New Zealand XI: 1 Matthew Bell, 2 Craig Cumming, 3 Peter Fulton, 4 *Stephen Fleming, 5 Mathew Sinclair, 6 Jacob Oram, 7 +Brendon McCullum, 8 Daniel Vettori, 9 Kyle Mills, 10 Chris Martin, 11 Iain O'Brien

Bangladesh XI: 1 Junaid Siddique, 2 Tamim Iqbal, 3 Habibul Bashar, 4 *Mohammad Ashraful, 5 Shahriar Nafees, 6 Aftab Ahmed, 7 +Mushfiqur Rahim, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza, 9 Shahadat Hossain, 10 Sajidul Islam, 11 Enamul Haque jnr

Yet another poor showing from the Tigers, this time they were bowled out for 137 after being asked to bat first. Tamim Iqbal made 53 but only three other players could make it to double figures, the highest of those was Habibul Bashar with 23.

Chris Martin was the main destroyer with four wickets, Jacob Oram took three, Kyle Mills picked up two with Daniel Vettori the final scalp.

In reply, New Zealand are 2/48 with Craig Cumming out for one and Peter Fulton falling for 14. Shahadat Hossain and Sajidal Islam, who is on debut, have the wickets. Mashrafe Mortaza has been demoted to first change.

Re: 1st Test: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Dunedin

Well, New Zealand already leads on first innings and it's only the end of Day 1. They're 4/156, already ahead by 19 runs. Matthew Bell did most of the damage, scoring 74 not out as New Zealand passed Bangaldesh's score late in the day. Jacob Oram is with Bell on 17. The score from the dismissed batsmen is Matthew Sinclair's 29.

Debutant Sajidal Islam is the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, taking 2/42 and is the only multiple wicket-taker for the Tigers. Mashrafe Mortaza has the other wicket, that of Sinclair.

So, plenty of work to do for the Tigers already, they're already behind after only the first day and New Zealand will be looking to turn the screws tomorrow. Bell looks in good form, we all know what Oram can do and with Brendon McCullum in next, Bangladesh could be in some serious trouble if they don't take early wickets on Day 2.

Re: 1st Test: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Dunedin

New Zealand were bowled out for 357. Bell scored 107 and Oram 117 as they helped New Zealand to a lead of 210 on first innings. Daniel Vettori scored 32 late in the innings.

Mashrafe Mortaza took 4/74, perhaps trying to prove a point to the Bangladesh captain that he should be back to opening the bowling.

In reply, the Tigers have started well and are 0/49. Junaid Suddique has scored the bulk of the runs with 35 and along with Sajidul Islam and Tamim Iqbal is also on debut. In fact, both of Bagladesh's opening batsman are making their test debut. A good start but they're still a long way behind, plenty of work to do yet.

Bangladesh are doing very well over there.

They are, they've surprised me. They should be aiming to do this more often though.

As jimmy said, Bangladesh are doing well, they're 0/148 in their second innings, still trailing by 72 runs however. Junaid Siddque is 69 and Tamim Iqbal is 72. It's funny how three of Bangladesh's top four top players in this game have been their debutants, perhaps that says something about the guys that are playing in the team now and those that were dropped for the new guys (they were pretty much cruising).

Anyway, a bright effort from Bangladesh but they'll need more of the same tomorrow, at least they look as if they will make New Zealand bat again.

its very good to see this in the world of cricket, they may not win the game but they have shown that they can put up a very good fight and match it with one of the best teams in word cricket today.

Re: 1st Test: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Dunedin

What looked to be the start of something tuned into yet another poor Bangladesh performance. Iqbal and Siddque didn't add much to their overnight totals and the rest of the Tigers' line-up failed to really achieve anything of significance. Vettori took four wickets with Mills and O'Brien taking two each.

New Zealand reached target score of 35 with ease, making 1/39. Craig Cumming fell early again but Bell and Fleming scored quickly to finish the game off.

An easy nine wicket to New Zealand, too good in the end with bat and ball with Bangladesh unable to show their skills with the bat excpet for a period of times in the second innings.

Jacob Oram was Man of the Match.

The second and final test is in Wellington starting on January 12.
