2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Pakistan won the toss and will bowl.

Interesting teams here, Chanderpaul and Yousuf are both out.
Lendl Simmons will make his ODI debut for West Indies, while Abdur Rehman makes his ODI debut for Pakistan. Also for West Indies, Ganga plays a somewhat rare ODI, and Bradshaw is back for the ODI's. For Pakistam, Rana Naved is back as is Rao Iftikhar.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Simmons faces the first deliveries instead of Gayle, and that was a mistake.
He's out on his second ball!

Just like Silva on his test debut for Sri Lanka earlier today. Both Simmons and Silva out for a second ball duck on debut!

West Indies Simmons, Gayle, Ganga, Samuels, Lara, Morton, Smith, Ramdin, Bradshaw, Taylor, Collymore

Pakistan Hafeez, Farhat, Younis, Inzamam, Malik, Razzaq, Kamran, Naved, Iftikhar, Gul, Rehman

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Oh no!!!

Inzamam (!) makes a bit of a diving catch to eliminate Gayle now!

Windies 2-2 after 2 overs.

edit: okay just watched the replay. It may have been a bit more of leaning or falling instead of diving, but it was still a good catch by Inzamam.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Windies have stabilized, at least, with Ganga and Samuels. They are still scoring very slowly though, and are just 23/2 after 10 overs. Need to pick it up if they are to set any kind of target.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

34-2 after 16 overs

Pretty slow scoring rate here, but at least Ganga and Samuels have held on to their wicket. It might not be a pretty score, but it's far better than 2-2. If they can hang on for another 5 or 10 overs, I'm sure they'll increase their run rate.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Ganga was out in the 20th over, another catch for Inzi. (this one straight to him)

Lara came on and the run rate hasn't really improved very much at all.

West Indies 60-3 after 25 overs.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Lara was paying too much attention to his sunglasses, and was run out for 14.

72-4 after 28.3, and now the West Indies will have a tough time even getting close to 200.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Smith gone lbw for a duck.
Rehman gets his first ever ODI wicket for Pakistan.

76-5

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Samuels gone for 37
Rehman gets his second wicket

West Indies 79-6

Windies in full collapse mode here.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

West Indies 103-6 after 40 overs.

They'll still need a bit of luck to get to 150.
Let's hope their bowlers can live up to the standard set by the Pakistanis.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

West Indies all out for 151 after 49.5 overs

Morton was the top scorer with 43.
Pretty much all of Pakistan's bowlers were the top bowler. Though Rehman will certainly be pleased with his debut, taking 2/20 from a full 10 overs. Run Out was actually the top wicket-taker with 3.

Obviously 151 isn't a huge score. Collymore, Taylor, and Bradshaw are all going to have to be at their best to try to win this.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v West Indies

Pakistan won the match by 2 wickets, ending the day at 154 for 9. It was eventually a close match which should have been won by the West Indies if theiir batsmen had done their part. Several things stood out in my mind,

Lendl Simmons who scored a ton against a Pak Attack lead by Aktar last year never got off the mark and Gayle ought to have taken the first strike in my opinion, being the more experienced player, instead of leaving the youngster to fare for himself. On top of that Gayle failed to lay a proper foundation for the following batsmen, succumbing to the same fate as Simmons..no runs on the board. Ganga can score quickly in limited overs, but was apparently unable to do so yesterday and one wonders if he's still in test mode cricket. The terrible miscommunication between Lara and Samuels was comical, only God could explain dat one. Morton was the only player to put up a decent score.

The Windies did a far better job with their bowling. Collymore, Braddie and Taylor, particularly Colly, restricted Pakistan well. Lara was able to marshall his forces which lead to a nail biting finish. Great to see the guys fight till the end but once again the batsmen failed the bowlers who needed 50 or so more runs to finish off the Pakistanis. Inzy, displaying the great qualities that make him stand out as a captain, stayed with his mates, steering Pak to victory calmy and sensibly, as a good captain should.

Nonetheless, was a great start to this ODI series, the only caveat being the horrid batting by the WI. The next match should be a tense, exciting one in which we hope the WI batsmen redeem themselves.
