2nd Test: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh
The second match of the series is underway and is panning out very similar to the first game. Once again Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl and yet again Bangladesh have crumbled due to some pathetic shot selection.
Bangladesh find themselves all out for a paltry 62 after just 25.2 overs, an even worse effort than the first test. The scorecard does not look good for the Bangladeshis, only one player made double figures, that player being Rajin Saleh who was the ninth wicket to fall just a few minutes before the lunch break. Saleh made 21 with the next best score being 9. Extras have outscored six of the Bangladesh batsmen, three of whom scored ducks.
It's been a day out for the Sri Lankan bowlers, Lasith Malinga has 4/25, Dilhara Fernando 2/16 and Muttiah Muralitharan 4/14. Chaminda Vass was the only bowler not to take a wicket.
Bangladesh found themselves 9/62 at lunch but have just lost their 10th wicket just two balls after the luncheon break. It's been a horrible effort by the Bangladeshis, even the commentator on cricinfo has had a go at them. The pitch has been helpful for the bowlers but the batsmen have shown nothing whatsoever except for shocking shot selection in what is becoming a regular occurance of late.
This is also Bangladesh's lowest test score, they beat the previous record by 24 runs (86 vs Sri Lanka in 2005).
As far as this series goes, Bangladesh are still a minnow in my eyes. While they have improved in the one-day arena (albeit slowly), their test form is nothing short of woeful and they've done nothing to suggest to their critics or the ICC that they've shown any sort of improvement. Just days ago, one of the Bangladesh assistant coaches stated that they were "stagnating" as a team.
Surely some questions will be asked after this game.
Sri Lanka XI: MG Vandort, BSM Warnapura, KC Sangakkara, DPMD Jayawardene*, LPC Silva, TM Dilshan, HAPW Jayawardene+, WPUJC Vaas, SL Malinga, M Muralitharan, CRD Fernando
Bangladesh XI: Javed Omar, Shahriar Nafees, Rajin Saleh, Habibul Bashar, Mohammad Ashraful*, Mehrab Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim+, Mashrafe Mortaza, Mohammad Rafique, Mohammad Sharif, Shahadat Hossain
