3rd Test: England vs West Indies at Old Trafford

Re: 3rd Test: England vs West Indies at Old Trafford

Lunch on Day 5 and the Windies have moved to 7/379.

Chanderpaul made his century a short time ago and is still there on 104 not out. His innings so far has included 12 fours and a staggering 241 balls faced. Jerome Taylor survived to the break and is undefeated on 10.

Another 76 runs required to win, England are starting to get a little desperate out there.

Argh, Windies all out for 394.

Pretty disappointing by the Windies to finish off the match, Harmison struck twice in one over to remove Taylor and Edwards, and Panesar got Collymore to end the Windies resistence.

A number of times, it was questioned why Chanderpaul was giving the tail so much of the strike considering their tail is quite weak. Their performace in this test demonstrated that the Windies tail needs a lot of batting practice. The last four batsmen could only manage a total of 41 runs in the two innings that they batted, that effort in itself is not a good one at all. They should be aiming to score a lot more runs than that. Of those 8 scores, there were 3 ducks and a zero not out, a pretty poor performance. Shivnarine Chanderpaul was left stranded on 116 not out.

The Windies poor bowling early on in the 2nd innings cost them the game. The tail didn't put up too much fight but they struggled to remove the top order batsmen and it really hurt their cause.

But, the Windies deserve some credit, they were able to make a fight of it and almost pulled off a miracle. They had the English worried but the target proved too big to achieve.

England win by 60 runs in the end. It turned out to be a good game and even though the series result is now over, let's hope that the fourth test is as good as this one.

Player of the Match was Monty Panesar for his 10 wicket haul.

Damn, I was hoping the Windies would steal that |@

Anyway, a better performance than their last effort, which is encouraging.

wasn't a bad effort by the Windies

let's see how they will go in the 3rd test.

Are they on the improve?

I hope the Windies can take some positives from that match.
