4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

4th game of this series is just minutes away from starting. South Africa go into the match needing a win to keep the series alive which has contrasted their test and first one-day game form. Pakistan on the other hand can win the series today after starting off poorly in the first game. Their form reversal has been quite remarkable really after what has been some rather ordinary efforts of late.

The axe has fallen at the Proteas, vice-captain Justin Kemp is gone and so is Charl Langeveldt. Jean-Paul Duminy and Andrew Nel replace them in the line-up. Pakistan have made one change with Mohammad Asif is into the eleven after recovering from an elbow injury. Sohail Tanvir makes way for him.

This pitch is supposed to be a good one with conditions very much suited to batting so we could be in for a run fest today. No doubt that Shahid Afridi will hold the key for Pakistan again today, he is such an enigma to their side. South Africa really need to life their batting, they have struggled in the past two matches.

Built him up and then he gets out! :p

Afridi out for a duck to Ntini, mistimes shot and it bobs up to Andre Nel at mid-on.

Since then, Pakistan have scored just three runs. They're 1/6 after four overs.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

Yasir Hameed out now too.

Pakistan 20-2 after 9 overs. Not a good start here. So much for this being a batting track.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

Yousuf run out!

Pakistan 38-3 after 13.

South Africa has a good shot to even up the series today.

Younis Khan made 82 and was the main scorer in Pakistan's total of 9/230 from their 50 over. Shoaib Malik chipped in with 45, Abdur Rehman 31 and Kamran Akmal 28.

Johan Botha and Andre Nel both took two wicket each for the South Africans.

In reply, South Africa are cruising at 1/174 after 30 overs. The only wicket to fall was Herschelle Gibbs who made a quickfire 39. South Africa surprisngly sent in Shaun Pollock at number three and it is a move that has paid off. Pollock is 63 not out with Graeme Smith on 60. Shahid Afridi is the sole wicket-taker for Pakistan.

This partnership so far is worth 109 runs.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

Pollock falls to Iftikhar Anjum for 90. Was a great innings, Pollock is no doubt South Africa's all-rounder.

2/225 after 36 overs.

Jacqes Kallis is the new man in, South Africa need just six runs for victory.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

Haha and again!! Another wicket for Iftikhar Anjum.

This time it is Graeme Smith that is out. Smashed to mid-wicket and Abdur Rehman takes a staright forward catch.

3/228 in the 38th over, need three more runs.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

And that's it. South Africa win by 7 wickets. They lost a couple of late ones but it didn't really matter and they finish up on 3/233 with Jacques Kallis hitting the winning boundary.

Pakistan's batting wasn't that crash hot today with the exceptions of a few players, they'll need to work on that for the next match which will now be the series decider.

That game is scheduled to take place at Lahore on Monday.

Man of the Match was Shaun Pollock.

Re: 4th ODI: Pakistan vs South Africa at Multan

I think we can safely call that one a comprehensive victory, especially considerng that at one point South Africa was 224-1.

Great move to bring in Pollock at #3. Apparently this is only the third time he's batted at #3, scoring 5 and 16* in the previous two occasions.

I wonder if we'll see him up there more often now.

Nice to see the series come down to the final match.
