The pitch has been described as underprepared, so it may not take a huge score to win this match.

Pakistan need 234 to win this series. Shoaib Akhtar (who according to Tony Greig and Rameez Raza should've had his career ended) took 4 wickets, and Jacques Kallis put up very good resistance with 86 runs.

Pakistan 2/43 in reply in the 8th over.

Imran Nazir and Kamran Akmal both gone after scoring quickly with each batsman being dismissed by Makhaya Ntini.

Pakistan lost both the test series and ODI series on their home soil. I think heads are going to roll after this debacle.

Is that in his podcast from cricinfo? I downloaded it this morning but have not had a chance yet to hear it?

Wow, what a shocking ending:

Pakistan was 202-5 after 43 overs. They needed 32 runs from 7 overs.
Misbah-ul-Haq fell for 19 and Sohail Tanvir followed in the next over for a duck.

Then they were 214-7 after 45 overs, needing a mere 20 runs from 5 overs.

Shahid Afridi fell for 9, leaving Pakistan at 219-8, needing 15 runs from 4 overs.

But Rao Iftikhar and Shoaib Akhtar both fell for ducks in the very next over leaving Pakistan all out for 219 and giving South Africa the 3-2 series victory!

South Africa took the final 5 wickets in less than 3 full overs!
A complete failure from the Pakistan tail.

I saw the scorecard, I figured I could step away for a cigarette, a quick trip to the restroom, and follow up on some office work I was waiting on. By the time I got back it looked ugly for Pakistan and it kept getting worse and worse. Same thing happened during one of the WC matches, you step away for a bit and when you get back it is a whole different game going on.

Yes, for Tony Greig. I didn't listen to the entire podcast, but it's clear from what's in the link.

About Rameez Raza, it was clear during the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa when he stated how pissed off he had been with Shoaib Akhtar and never wanted to see him playing for Pakistan ever again.

Pretty bad choke from Pakistan. They should have won from the position that they were in.

I went to bed and they were 2/140-odd, all they needed to do was to keep going as they were and they would have won quite easily.

Very disappointing end to the series for them and this loss has ended what has been an ordinary home series also. They were beaten in the test matches with one of those games being very one-sided. The one-day series also started off poorly for them but they managed to turn it around somewhat by winning the next two games. Unfortunately, two batting collapses in two games has cost them on this occasion after they could have possibly won the series in the fourth game.

Pakistan are definitely going to miss Inzamam-ul-Haq in the side for the next few years. They don't seem to have that experience required in the middle order to hold them steady. The side is relatively young and with the exception of Shoaib Akhtar in this game, Shahid Afridi has been their most experience player. There's no Abdur Razzaq or Imran Farhat and players such as those two to steady the ship when things go wrong. Interestingly, Razzaq has made himself available for selection for Pakistan again, he rennounced his retirement a couple of days ago.

Will be interesting to see how Pakistan goes over the next few years, they could potentially be a very good side in the future.

Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa at Lahore

If I read Shoaib Malik's body language right during the Twenty20 World Cup interviews (when he was incessantly asked about Shoaib Akhtar), he pretty much hates Shoaib Akhtar. His body language literally read "good riddance". Of course, I guess pretty much everyone in Pakistan must have hated him during that period. Given that Pakistan has been pretty much compelled to bring Akhtar back, I don't know what sort of effect that has on team chemistry. He took 4 wickets and contributed in this match alright, but there could be behind the scenes effects on the team due to such changes. Presence of that guy on the team roster could very well affect the team negatively.
