7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

The seventh and final game of the series is underway. This one is a dead rubber with Australia already leading the series 4-1.

Australia won the toss and batted first.

Australia XI: 1 +Adam Gilchrist, 2 Michael Clarke, 3 *Ricky Ponting, 4 Brad Haddin, 5 Brad Hodge, 6 Andrew Symonds, 7 Brad Hogg, 8 James Hopes, 9 Brett Lee, 10 Nathan Bracken, 11 Mitchell Johnson

India XI: 1 Sourav Ganguly, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Dinesh Karthik, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 *+Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 6 Robin Uthappa, 7 Irfan Pathan, 8 Murali Kartik, 9 Harbhajan Singh, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 RP Singh

Michael Clarke out for another first ball duck, off the very first ball of the innings. Zaheer Had him trapped in front but replays showed the ball was going over the stumps.

1/7 in the second over.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

59/1 after only 9 overs. Aussies cruising at a rate of knots. Gilchrist 19* off 25 and Ponting 24* off 28.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Kartik takes two wickets in two balls. Hodge's career is over i reckon, getting 16 off 29 the Symonds falls for a golden duck to a shocking ball.

Australia now 4/117 off 20 overs with Ponting on 53 off 63.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Ponting falls for 57 off 78. The scores are now 5/140 off 28 overs. Hopes and Haddin must have a big partnership here.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Kartik strikes again. Haddin gone for 19 off 38. Australia now 6/162 off 31.1 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Kartik gets his 4th, Hogg gone for a 3rd ball duck. Australia now 7/162 off 31.4 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Kartik on a hatrick and takes his 5th  Lee the man out. 8/162 off 31.5 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Australia all out for 193 from 41.3 overs.

But Mitchell Johnson has struck twice for Australia early on, getting both Ganguly and Karthik.

India 12-2 after 4 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

India's innings in tatters at 6/94 after 25 overs. Top order has yet again failed to fire a shot with the exception of Robin Uthappa who is 31 not out.

Mitchell Johnson and Nathan Bracken have two wickets with Brett Lee and James Hopes getting a wicket each. Still no Brad Hogg and we have played half the Indian innings already, quite surprising considering Murali Karthik took 6/27.

EDIT: And just as I say that, Hogg comes on to bowl the 27th over.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Michael Clarke traps Uthappa in front for 47.

7/129 after 31.3 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Johnson strikes!! Brought back by Ponting and this bowling change has done the trick, Johnson has struck the second over of this spell with Zaheer Khan trying to glide one to third man but only glides the ball straight into Ponting's waiting hands at a widish first slip.

Zaheer is out for 19 and India are 8/143 after 35.4 overs.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

8/179 now after 42 overs.

Just 15 needed off 48 balls. Zaheer Khan is 24 not out and Murali Karthik's great games continue, he has 15 not out so far.

Not a very good effort byt the Australian bowlers in the second half of the Indian innings.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

India reach the traget with four overs to spare. Zaheer and Karthik remain 31 and 21 not out respectively.

Australia just didn't score enough runs to begin with and defending this total was always going to be tough. However, the bowlers did the work early but India couldn't be finished off with Uthappa and the tail combining nicely to help India to the win. Australia won't be happy with that performance, it was well below their best.

Murali Karthik was Man of the Match for his 6/27 and 21 not out.

Man of the Series was Andrew Symonds.

Australia ends up winning the seven game series 4-2.

Only one game to go in this iteniary, with these two doing battle in a Twenty20 match on Saturday. After that, Australia will head home and prepare to host Sri Lanka for a two test series which starts on November 8 in Brisbane. India meanwhile will be gearing up to host arch rival Pakistan in a 5-match one-day series and 3-match test series. Pakistan's tour of India starts on November 5.

Been a great one-day series, the Twenty20 promises to be good.

I think you meant Harbhajan, not Zaheer.

All in all, a good consolation comeback by India. Just shows that if they had applied themselves a little better, e.g. in the Chandigarh match and not been so careless they could've made this series a much closer contest. In the beginning of the series, they were having too much of a hangover from Twenty20 success.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

Meaningless match, an ICC specialty. Bandis didn't bother to show up for this one.
When Punter was at the crease he was only thinking of when the next WWF
tagteam match would be on. Symo was only thinking of that big cold one
after the match. And so the Jurassic age continues for cricket. ICC
should adopt Fred Flintstone as its logo.

Re: 7th ODI: India vs Australia at Mumbai

What a game from Karthik, eclipses his previous best figures of 3/36. Dead rubber, not a game Australia wins much. More claims of racism against Symonds. Indian fans were ejected for making monkey sounds at him.

Good to see that Andrew Symonds was able to let his bat do the talking especially after what he had to put up with from the crowd and some of the players.

Given that West Indies cricket team had been a huge fan favorite in India for years (specifically in Mumbai where I personally became a fan of their team back in 1970s), I find this trouble with Andrew Symonds incomprehensible. It makes no sense at all, and if it's true, I strongly condemn it. How can Andrew Symonds become targets of racist abuse with a crowd which used to idolize Malcolm Marshall, Viv Richards and Joel Garner? Maybe times have changed for the worse. Or I wonder if their problem is specifically against Symonds as a person, not his race?
