ACC Premier League: Malaysia/Nepal & UAE/Hong Kong

Okay, I'm going to be out of town for Thanksgiving, but I'd appreciate it if someone could track these matches with a daily update or two, just so I can see how they went when I get back.

We never had a thread on the last match, between Nepal and Singapore. I hope these two matches aren't forgotten too. Hopefully this thread will see a bit of action.

By the way, Nepal beat Singapore quite handily:

Nepal v Singapore, November 10-12 2006, TU Stadium
NEPAL WON BY 205 RUNS
Nepal: 313 for 9 decl. after 83.3 overs (P. Lohani 103, S. Veshawkar 35, M. Alam 74, P. Khadka 69; D. Mulewa 4-101) and 176 for 6 decl. after 37.3 overs (M. Alam 51, P. Khadka 56)
Singapore: 90 all out in 35.5 overs (B. Das 5-24) and 196 all out in 71 overs (C. Ruwan 55*; B. Das 4-52)
Man of the Match: Mehboob Alam (Nepal)


Pretty tough to win when you're bowled out for 90!

As you can see, Nepal is currently leading the table, and Malaysia has an outside shot at winning too. UAE is the overwhelming favorite though. If UAE fails to beat Hong Kong, Nepal might be able to build a nearly insurmountable lead with a big win against Malaysia. Basically, Nepal needs help from someone else, they need any one of the other teams to beat or draw UAE.

By the way, apparently the bottom 2 teams will be "relegated", and for next years competition, they'll be replaced by two new teams who performed well in "various other ACC competitions".

Nepal vs Malaysia

Nepal is heading towards Malaysia for their fourth leauge match, in contension of being the seires winner. While Malaysia will be trying to use the home ground advantage to be on the top flight.

Nepal v Malaysia Day 2 update

Seem to be having a problem tracking down info on this game as the original link provided by Cleazer in the previous post, for some reason is not opening the page.

However I was able to get info from this site:

Raj Kumar Pradhan grabbed five wickets as Malaysia were skittled for 162 runs in reply to the visitors total of 226 in the first innings on the second day of the Asian Premier League match at the Kinrara Oval on Saturday.
At the close of play yesterday, Nepal reached 37-1 in their second innings for a lead of 101 runs.
Except for a brave stand of 46 runs from Esrafiz Abdul Aziz and Suhan Kumar's 40, nothing really went right for the Malaysians who gave away six easy catches in the first innings when play resumed yesterday. Day 3 Report

NEPAL AND MALAYSIA SETTLE FOR A DRAW


The day began with Nepal batting with a comfortable 101-run lead over Malaysia when the pace and swing of Malaysia’s Navaratnam deceived Paresh Lohani (27) as he fished for the ball only to be caught behind.

After their first innings batting collapse, Nepal were determined to regain their past form. Sharad Veshawkar (23) and Gyanendra Malla (27) put on a masterful 54-run partnership before Malla too was dismissed as Nepal went in for lunch with the score at 132-3.

SCORES ON THE FINAL DAY

Nepal: 180-6 Decl. in 70 overs (S. Gauchan 47)
Malaysia: 101-7 after 26 overs (S. Navaratnam 33; P. Khadka 3-15)

Trying to find some updates on this game, having no such luck. The HKCA wesbite doesn't seem to have an update for this. Hmm

So both matches ended in a draw. If only Nepal would have had the time to get those final 3 wickets. They would've had a nearly insurmountable lead in this competition.

I might be off by a point or two, but here's what the current standings should look like:

UAE needs two wins to catch Nepal. A win and a draw won't get the job done.

Mathematically, Singapore and Malaysia still have a chance to catch Nepal, but noit a very realistic one. Singapore would need to score more than 625 runs against UAE, while Malaysia would need to reach 700. Not very likely when you consider that it's only a 3-day match, and they'd still need to get all 20 UAE wickets to get an outright win.

So as expected, it's either going to be UAE or Nepal, depending on whether UAE can get 2 wins or not.

Still no word on when UAE is going to host Malaysia or Singapore. It could be anytime in December or January or maybe even later.

However, apparently there is going to be a final between the top 2 teams (this was news to me). Barring some strange results, we should expect to see Nepal vs UAE in the final (if there really is going to be a final). Who knows when it'll happen, but they'll have to get around to scheduling the last two UAE matches first.
