Asia Cup Series

The Asian Cup starts today with Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan taking part as well as two minnows in Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates (UAE). The first round of games sees Bangladesh take on UAE and Pakistan play Hong Kong

Game 2

Pakistan bolted out of the blocks early on but a stunning spell from Nadeem Ahmed saw him capture 4/51 and in turn tear through Pakistan's middle order. It was left to Fawad Alam and Sohail Tanvir to pick up the pieces after they lost 5/40. Alam made 63 not out and Tanvir 59 as Pakistan began the rebuild. Earlier, Younis Khan scored 67 off 65 balls. Irfan Ahmed took 2/59, the only other Hong Kong bowled to get more then one wicket.

In reply, Hong Kong are 0/5 from 1.4 overs with the Pakistan bowlers online from the first ball of the innings.

Game 1

The other game between Bangladesh and UAE is also at a similar stage. Bangladesh batted first and scored an even 300 losing eight wickets in the process. Mohammad Ashraful was the mainstay, making 109 before being run out, one of three run outs in the Tigers' innings. Remarkably, all three run outs were courtesy of UAE's keeper, Amjad Ali. Raqibul Hasan gave Ashraful good support with an innings of 81. Tamim Iqbal made 40 pening the innings with Dolar Mahmud doing his best to get Bangladesh to the 300 mark with 20 from only nine balls.

UAE tried everything with the ball, using eight bowlers. Zahid Khan opened the bowling and took 3/49 and the seventh bowler, Khurram Khan took an expensive 2/78. Arshid Ali, the 8th bowlers used also bowled ten overs, costing 74 runs. Bizarre stuff from the UAE side considering five of the first six bolwers were bowling quite well.

UAE have also started their reply and are 1/17 after 3 overs. Amjad Javed is the only wicket to fall so far, he was out for ten to Mashrafe Mortaza.

UAE has eight players making their ODI debut and three of those are making their List A debut.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 2

Hong Kong struggling at 4/45, Rao Iftikhar Anjum and Sohail Tanvir have done the damage, Anjum has 2/5 and Tanvir 2/20. Tabarak Dar has top score with 15 after retiring hurt. Dar was hit by a ferocious bouncer courtesy of Umar Gul, the ball crashed into his helmet which then hit his jaw. He walked off after being sprawled out on the floor at one point.

Game 1

UAE are going okay, they're 3/70 from 15 overs. Arshad Ali has top score with 28 not out. Wicketkeeper Amjad Ali made 19 from 18 balls faced.

Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain and Abdur Razzak have shared the wickets at this stage with one each.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 2

Hong Kong were no match for Pakistan in the end. Pakistan bundled them out for 133, well short of the target score. Tabarak Dar came back out for the Hong Kong side but was soon dismissed for 24. Zain Abbas also tried hard for his 26 before retiring hurt with severe cramps. That was it for the Hong Kong line-up, the Pakistan bowling attack was too accurate, too strong and just far too good for HK and is this is further highlighted by the fact that no Pakistan bowler had an economy rate above four.

Sohail Tanvir, Iftikhar Anjum and Shahid Afridi were the standout bowlers with two wickets each.

An easy win to Pakistan, victory by 155 runs and two points for the Asian Cup table. Sohail Tanvir was Man of the Match.

Game 1

UAE are trying hard but it's becoming a little too much for them. 43 overs down and they need another 104 runs to win. They're 7/198, not a bad effort from the oil rich state, maybe they should be nicknamed the "oilers", cause....you know.....they have like.....heaps of oil... and stuff, errr...

Khurrum Khan has tried hard for UAE, up to 77 not out now, a pretty good effort even though his efforts will probably be in vain. Abdur Razzak has bowled beautifully, 2/16 from nine overs, including two maidens. Mahmudullah has also bowled well, taking two wickets as well.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 1

Khurrum Khan goes for 78 giving Abdur Razzak his 3rd wicket of the game. Khan's average went from 6.5 to 30.33 with that knock. That was also Razzak's 100th ODI wicket, well done Abdur.

9/198, can UAE get the difference below 100?

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 1

All over. Fahad Alhashmi goes for a massive slog but is bowled by Alok Kopali's googly for a duck. UAE are all out for 204 and Bangladesh win by 96.

A good win for the Tigers but they would have liked to dismiss UAE for something less than that. Khurram Khan fought well for 78 but he didn't have many allies with the bat, Only Arshad Ali made anything of significance with 41. The rest of the line-up couldn't manage more than 20.

Abdur Razzak was Bangladesh's best bowler by a mile, 3/20 from ten overs, a fantastic effort. Mamudullah and Kopali both finished with two wickets.

Bangladesh play Sri Lanka tomorrow while UAE rounds out this group's games by playing the Lankans on Thursday. The tournament then moves into a "Super Four" stage and is then followed by the Grand Final on July 6.

Looking to be a good little tournament. @|

Re: Asia Cup Series

Sri Lanka going along at over 8 an over against Bangladesh and India are slowing down after a strong start against Hong Kong

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 4 - India vs Hong Kong

India scored a massive 4/374 from their 50 overs. MS Dhoni lead the way with 109 not out while Suresh Raina blazed 101 from just 68 balls. Virender Sehwag started the onslought with 78 off 44 opening the innings along with Gautam Gambhir who made 51.

Najeeb Amar was HK's best bowler by far, taking 2/40 from ten overs in an encouraging performance. Munir Dar was the only other bowler to go for less than seix runs an over as India smashed Hong Kong's bowlers to all parts. Afzaal Haider felt the brunt of the attack, going for 72 from six overs. JPR Lamsam went for 27 from two overs.

In reply, Hong Kong have crawled to 2/54 in the 15th over. The asking rate is already heading towards nine, Atkinson has top score with 23 with Tabarak Dar making 21 earlier before being outdone by Piyush Chawla.

Going to be tough for Hong Kong from here.

Game 3 - Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh

Bangladesh may have been the bully last night but they are getting beaten up today by Sri Lanka. The Lankans batted first and amassed 9/357 from 50 overs, Kumar Sangakkara top scored with 101, Sanath Jayasuriya blasted 72 and Chamara Kapugdera scored 74 and Sri Lanka marched past 300.

Abdur Razzak was again the Tigers best bowler, snaring 3/55 from ten overs. Mashrafe Mortaza took 2/53 also from the full allotment of ten overs with Shahadat Hossain taking two wickets as well.

Bangladesh are struggling in the chase, 2/44 in the 13th over. Vaas and Fernando struck early to remove Nazimuddin and Mohammad Ashraful respectively. Tamim Iqbal has been the Tigers best batter so far, up to 28 not out, he'll need to bat well if the Bangladeshis are to have any chance.

EDIT: Iqbal gone for 28, bowled by Kulasekara, 3/48 now.

Raina took two catches.

Re: Asia Cup Series

whats so good about 2 catches though ?
he was just in the right spot at the right time

unless he got wickets Sehwag or Malik deserved it alot more than Raina

Raina is in some form, three MOTM awards from the last three games he has played in. Absolutely on fire with the bat in this series. Ohja also backed up his two wickets with three catches in the field. He was involved in every Bangladesh dismissal except Tamim Iqbal's.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Game 8 - Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

About 10 mins away from the start, this promises to be a test for the young Pakistani side, Sri Lanka bring back Vaas, Jayasuriya and Muralitharan from their rest.

Pakistan XI: 1 Salman Butt, 2 *Shoaib Malik, 3 Younis Khan, 4 Mohammad Yousuf, 5 Misbah-ul-Haq, 6 Shahid Afridi, 7 Sohail Tanvir, 8 +Sarfraz Ahmed, 9 Mansoor Amjad, 10 Wahab Riaz, 11 Iftikhar Anjum.

Sri Lanka XI: 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 +Kumar Sangakkara, 3 *Mahela Jayawardene, 4 Chamara Kapugedera, 5 Chamara Silva, 6 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 7 Chaminda Vaas, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Ajantha Mendis, 10 Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Thilan Tushara.

Pakistan have won the toss and will bowl first. A slightly perplexing decision considering the pitch looks like another road.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Sri Lanka off to a steady start, 2/80 in the 17th over. Jayasuriya and Jayawardene both fell victim to Sohail Tanvir.

Sangakkara and Kapugedera the not out batsmen.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Sri Lanka scored 7/302 from their 50 overs. Kumar Sangakkara was the mainstay of the innings wih a fine knock of 112. He was well supported by Chamara Kapugedera and and Chamara Silva who scored 43 and 46 respectively.

Sohail Tanvir was the standout for Pakistan, taking 5/48 from his ten overs. Wahab Raiz got a wicket as did Mansoor Amjad who is on debut.

Pakistan are 1/38 after eight overs in reply. Salman Butt was bowled by Chaminda Vaas from the very first ball of the innings. Younis Khan has done the bulk of the scoring with 25 not out so far.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Sri Lanka won by 64 runs in the end. Misbah-ul-Haq top scored with 76 for Pakistan but the middle and lower order failed to provide much support. Pakistan fell well short in the end with the game over even before Misbah was dismissed.

Ajantha Mendis did the damage again, taking 4/47 to be Sri Lanka's best bowler. Kulasekara took 2/35.

Kumar Sangakkara was Man of the Match.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Game 9

Sri Lanka are backing up yesterday's win with another game today, this time against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka batted first once again and racked up a massive 8/332 from their 50 overs. Sanath Jayasuriya celebreated his 39th birthday is style, smashing 130 from 88 balls before falling to Alok Kapali. He and Sangakkara put on 201 for the opening wicket and from only 27.5 overs. Had Jayasuriya kept batting, he would have hit 200 easily. Sangakkara went on to score 121 and that was all of not for Sri Lanka as the remaining batters perished trying to score quick runs.

Farhad Reza was Bangladesh's best bowler, taking 2/51 from nine overs. Alok Kapali snared 2/40 off six overs. Jayasuriya was particularly harsh on Mashrafe Mortaza and Abdur Razzak with those two bowlers leaking 78 and 71 runs respectively from their full ten overs.

In reply, Bangaldesh have limped to 5/151 from 30 overs. Nazimuddin looked as if he was set for a big score after launching a six and a four off Mendis' first two balls but he then run out for 47 after ignoring Raqibul Hasan's calls of "no". Hasan himself is up to 46 and is Bangladesh's last hope if they are to win this game. Muralitharan has done the damage to the middle order, 2/20 off six overs so far.

The Tigers need nine an over from here, have to treat the game as a Twenty20 now, they need some boundaries and they need them quick.

Re: Asia Cup Series

Another Doosra from Murali, another wicket. This time it's Hasan (the BC curse strikes again!) who falls victim, he is drawn forward by the doosra but edges to first slip.

6/158, Abdur Razzak is in now.
