Re: Australia in West Indies

Finding a good opener pair is a must and is one area where you were lucky for so long, Langer and Hayden were awesome and gave you great starts in a lot of games.

Get that pair sorted and it makes the rest of the line up that little bit easier to pick as well allowing for a bit more leeway with regards to bringing in new players or playing people who may be slightly out of form - nothing like coming in at 300-2 to take some of the pressure off!

Re: Australia in West Indies

That is probably the most important job lying ahead of the Australian selectors. Hopefully Jaques will be well and truely established by the time Hayden decides to retire, then they can blood a young 'un for a long career

Re: Australia in West Indies

Wow, Clarke really is the man with the golden touch. A ton followed by two wickets, including that of a set and dangerous looking batsmen. He well and truly out bowled McGill, who has been absolutely awful.
And how about Xavier Marshall, hasn't even got a First-Class ton, but played an excellent innings for 50. Too bad he had that brain meltdown and padded up to Clarke.
Australia well on top, but we need Shiv and Ram out real quick

Re: Australia in West Indies

Rain delayed start. Will be an interesting day, will the Windies collapse as they have done in the past, or have they learnt to fight a bit more?

Re: Australia in West Indies

Go Lee! 5 fa!

Australia lead by 325 last time I checked with Symonds and Lee at the crease, with Katich to come. But seriously, why would you drop Katich down the order after he scored a hundred? Probably likes it better down there. Haddin once again fails! Jaques!! 70!!

Re: Australia in West Indies

No, Katich got a bruised rib whilst batting. He didn't feild for most of the Windies innings. Great to see Jaques back among the runs. I think he just needs an experienced head with him at the top to take the pressure off him a bit. This is going to be a draw unless the Aussie bowlers can induce a collapse, but with Shiv in the form he is in then it doesnt seem likely at all

Re: Australia in West Indies

Well they will have to. Maybe let Symo have a swing and get his 50 but it is going to take a stellar effort by the bowlers to get a result

Re: Australia in West Indies

98-3 with Sarwan and Chanderpaul at the crease.

I reckon the match will hinge on this partnership, if the Windies are still 3 down at tea it would be a long way back for Australia.

Re: Australia in West Indies

I was shocked to see that Lee has never taken a 10fer in a game! His best is 8-110, which came in the last test.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Haddin in doubt for the 3rd test with a broken finger. Ronchi might get the call up to be Aussie test player number 401, but I have a feeling Haddin will still play.

Re: Australia in West Indies

The pitch is a nice bouncy one. Brett Lee, Clark, Johnson and Casson would be licking their lips when it comes their turn to bowl. Hopefully with a few more runs on the board. We probably have the best tail in world cricket at the moment, so hopefully they can make a few more runs and take us past 250 and closer to 300. Heres to hoping ::)

Re: Australia in West Indies

I was expecting West Indies to take the lead or at least level the scores. Its typical of them to throw away the advantage.

Re: Australia in West Indies

They always do it, there are flashes of quality from time to time but they lack any consistency. Hopefully they'll learn over the next 12-24 months.

Re: Australia in West Indies

KATTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 148 not out, ooooooo.

West Indies have dug themselves into a whole here.

Re: Australia in West Indies

Still unconvinced about him Jonesy???

And Jaques scored that ton just in time. Too bad he came into form in the last innings of the Test series. Oh well
