Back up Keeper?

Back up Keeper?

Once again this question is raised now. Tim Paine seems to have the second in line for the ODIs, but who for the Tests?

Sorry for it being a bit hard to read, but the code formatting just wasn't working for me.

From those figures there it is either Hartley or Ronchi. Manou has been injured and out of form, so not including him here.

Ronchi on age, Hartley on ability.

You'd imagine Paine would get the gig when Haddin calls it a day in 3 or 4 years.

A quality batsmen and a quality keeper.

You'd imagine that, yes, but after a mediocre summer would you have him in there now?

Re: Back up Keeper?

Rocnhi and Hartley have been pretty good but I Paine would still be number two at the moment. Another less than spectacular summer might see him lose that spot though if Ronchi and Hartley can keep their form going.

Re: Back up Keeper?

Ronchi and Hartley have both had this form going for the past two years, so I would believe they are charging at the door that Paine is behind with a battering ram.

Saying that, though, an ODI hundred against England and come very good keeping internationally is hard to get past. His last game for Australia I found him quite shocking to watch behind the stumps though, wasn't having a good game.

I do like Paine, though, and he will most likely be the next Test keeper of wickets.

Re: Back up Keeper?

It just shows how special gilly was to be able to be in form with both. Haddin even is not in brilliant form with both at the same time.

Re: Back up Keeper?

I must say how well Haddin has been keeping lately. It is the major criticism against him, his keeping abilities, and now I definitely think he is the number one gloveman in Australia behind the stumps. Done really well to improve.

That's true but his batting form in the summer was poor. Only the good score in the ODI recently.

Also true.

Noticed this the other day. The only batsman on the team these days that can really average low 40s is the keeper. You will rarely see anyone else anymore with that sort of average.

Re: Back up Keeper?

Yes, Australia I was talking about. If your average is below 48 you won't be in the team anymore. The changing of times.

Only people are like Katich and Watson who are coming back from a bad start.

Matty Wade not getting enough recognition IMO.

He's gone very well, but has been beaten on every front with arguably a better bowling attack to get the wickets through to him.
