Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

What do you guys make of the new BCA laws regarding extreme heat?

Seems like a sensible approach, what are your thoughts?

Steve, I think it's about time to be honest. I can guarantee that we have all played in heat where we all knew it was borderline dangerous and I myself succumbed to it 2 years ago. If we all had the support like the Australian Cricket Team does then I would say get amongst it but we don't so I personally am very happy with the decision.

While I'm at it, and from all clubs' prespectives I hope, I must applaud the BCA for loosening their rules on fines. As a club secretary it was a tough gig to make sure you had all paperwork from 11 teams into the BCA by no later than 7pm on Sundays. Unfortunately I can see the loosening of the fines situation eating into the BCA's revenue therefore our fees etc just may go up more than the usual 10-15% this year. I hope for our sake it doesn't happen. Bring on round 1!!!

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Guys,

The Ballarat Cricket Umpires are having an information night for prospective new Cricket umpires. It is being held at the GPCC rooms at the Eastern Oval on Monday the 7th of September at 7.00pm. If you know of anyone who may be interested then please let them know.

Conversely if you are getting on a bit, eyesight and hearing nearly shot, sick of the aching body on Monday and need a bit of extra beer money then maybe you could become an umpire?

If you want more info then let me know.

Steve.

Is that for junior umpires as well?

Moe,

It is aimed at senior umpires so I guess if you wanted to be a senior umpire then cool... come along.

I need someone from Point to operate the bar so maybe you could do that for me and kill two birds with one stone.

Steve.

Perhaps Steven I will become a senior umpire (which you suggested I do after another failure last season) as my playing abilities are clearly limited. However, I can't run the bar because I am not yet 18 years of age and don't have an RSA.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association 09/10

Any thoughts on the $132,000 in the BCA kitty for the building of a new HQ at Eastern Oval?

Its only half of what pykey gets to play at Wendouree so maybe he can chip in as well.

The competition needs a new HQ and may as well be at the Golden Point CC - i mean the Eastern Oval.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association 09/10

It should work well, as long as the BCA are willing to start their meetings after our committee meetings end.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association 09/10

In all seriousness i think it will be good for the league to have a base at the best ground in the competition and where they play the BCA final, most rep cricket which includes premier & state games.

Sitting perched up the top of the existing building cant be much fun for the administrator's.

As long as it doesnt cost the clubs any more in fines.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association 09/10

Just a bit of useless info but i believe that Essendon has signed up Shane Harwood for the upcoming premier season. Will he ever come back to the BCA and play for Brown Hill?

When he's Vic contract ends he will be at Brown Hill, when that is who knows? Move to Essendon makes sense as he travels from Ballarat each day.

Not any more. Well, he moved out of his Alfredton house a couple of weeks ago anyway, may have gone to Melbourne but I'd think you might be in a better position to answer that one Deano. Maybe it was the BRCC flyer we put in his letterbox that drove him away?!!

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association 09/10

see that the eastern oval are getting new lights that are afl standard? recon they will be good enough for night cricket? 20/20s under lights would be good?
