Batting Methods

Ok then, everyone has different methods and a different approach when it comes to batting. What routines do people on here use?

The key point for me to help me keep concentrating is i keep talking to myself. Might seem a little strange, but it works for me. As im coming out to the crease i just keep telling myself to watch the ball closely and move my feet as much as i can early on.

I then take my guard and i will just keep telling myself in my head to relax and remind myself to keep focused. Then as the bowler is coming i will keep talking to myself in my head, just reminding me to get the feet moving and watch the ball out of the hand. Occasionally as well, if i play a bad shot or just to keep my concentration going, i go for a walk towards square leg to keep myself focused. I usually keep stopping quite often to make sure i feel comfortable in my stance and to make sure im always ready. At times i probably do really annoy the bowler, but you have to make sure you are ready and focused all of the time.

Re: Batting Methods

I dont have a routine yet but I would like to have one. Dhoni opens his gloves strap and puts them back on. It would be interesting to hear from other forum members wht thr routines are..

Re: Batting Methods

I will usually just figet with my glove straps like Dhoni and Michael Clarke do, im not usually in the middle for too long though:D

Re: Batting Methods

A guy I know had to touch every part of his equipment after every ball. Yep, he's a weirdo.

Also this guy who used to be in my team always adjusted his box, we used to count how many times he adjusted it in a match. One time it was like 26 times or something and he only would of made about 5 runs! He also wore greys instead of whites.

Re: Batting Methods

I sometimes readjust my box because I've got these padman short things and they always move it around in uncomfortable positions!! Apart from that it's just tapping the bat and then just before the bowler gets into his delivery stride I flex my knees and make sure my eyes are level.

Re: Batting Methods

i usually fix my box and bend my knees a few times and tap the bat on the ground three times and also stick my shoulder to my chin. Sometimes i tend to pull up up my sleeves (just to show dem pythons jks jks) and sometimes just figet around with my gloves oh yeah fix my helmet too! :)

Re: Batting Methods

I like to rub the strap of the glove on the bat handle. I didn't even know I was doing it until one day while I was playing with a tennis ball and no gloves, I did it.

I also adjust my helmet.

Re: Batting Methods

Have you seen Chanderpaul? Does he fidget or what? He is always taking off and putting on his gloves, taking his helmet off and then putting it back on etc. He cant stand still for a second.

Re: Batting Methods

I loosen my glove's straps on approaching the batting crease or waiting at the non-striker's end.
After a dot ball i will walk three steps towards the square leg side to relax.
Also adjusting the box in between has become a habit.
I check my bat in the right area and tap the bat only once or twice.
Also shake my shoulders while taking stance.

Re: Batting Methods

ok I developed my routine. I hold my bat like an axe in line with the crease and then ready to face the bowler. Simple and doesn't take too much time :)

Re: Batting Methods

in between deliveries I take two steps away to leg to clear my mind by moving out of the situation, check the field, and then march straight to my mark as the bowler is about to turn to bowl.

Re: Batting Methods

ive not spent enough time at the crease to develop a routine! apart from trying to hit the ball too hard......

lol

although i usually remark my guard just incase it has moved since last time.

Re: Batting Methods

I watch the ball in the hand all the way from the first step in the bowlers run up.. then when he gets to the crease I lift the bat up face down about stump height and stand taller in the crease..

And my cap seems to get a funny angle on it the longer I stay at the wicket.. the boys used to joke that when I was on 50 (pretty rare) my cap was nearly falling off my head
