Big bash question?

Current table for the australia big bash

XXXX Gold Qld Bulls 5 6 0.625 0
VB Bushrangers 4 6 1.399 0
West End Redbacks 5 4 0.546 0
Retravision Warriors 5 4 -1.684 0
PKF Tasmanian Tigers 5 4 -0.464 0
RTA SpeedBlitz Blues 4 4 -0.221 0

anyone understand the Nrr? Is it like percentage in football? I am not sure why victoria are not above the bulls with their Nrr 1.399 to the bulls 0.625?

Can victoria still lose tomorrow night and as long as it's close they will host the final? ABC radio and the papers suggest that the winner tomorrow night will host the final?

Anyone want to clear this up?

Re: Big bash question?

Big Bash like any limited overs tournament determines final positions by head to head before NRR. Wins is ranked 1st in tie breaker but in such a short tournament nearly impossible for 2 teams finish equal on points but not wins. Although imo thats stupid. Say a team has 2 washouts and wins 2/3 completed matches they would be ranked below a side who won 3/5 by bad luck. In tournaments with BPs there are even more tie breaker situations

But back on the big bash, QLD beat the Vics so are ahead of them atm, should NSW win then both other teams on 6 points will have beaten Victoria so Vics drop to 3rd and NSW beat QLD as well so they take top and QLD host the Vics in the prelim

Victoria wins then the 4 teams equal on 4 points comes down to head to head, ends up even for 3 of them so NRR is used on those 3 sides and SA will finish 3rd

As for NRR, its done by runs scored divided by overs faced against runs against divided by overs bowled, I always forget the exact equation, but if a side is bowled out they are deemed to have faced their full allocation

Yet despite it being used on all limited overs tables, its the final tie break situation confusing many
