Bob Woolmer RIP

Word broke earlier today that Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room.

Now, almost unbelieveably, news is coming breaking that he has now died.
A tragic end.

Could the past few months have been any worse for Pakistani cricket?

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Wow, unbelievable!!! :(

Will Pakistan even play the 3rd match against Zimbabwe or will they be allowed to forefeit the match and just go home?

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

My deepest regards to Bob and his family, Has always tried to make the best of a bad situation (and let's face it. With the current team, He has had plenty) Will alway's have my respect, Had the chance to leave at 2003, To go to easier job's in Sri Lanka/Windies, Didn't take it up, Decided to stay loyal to the team he was with. And now this. R.I.P Bob Woolmer

Does anyone know how he died ?

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

It was awlful news to wake up this morning and here about bob. Together with india I think that the pakistan team would be one of the toughest jobs in world cricket.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

This is tragic, the latest report is there are suspicious circumstances around his death, possibly murder.
"Police are now treating Bob Woolmer's death as suspicious, Mark Shields, the deputy commissioner of police, told a news conference in Jamaica.

"We have already informed the Woolmer family of these developments," Shields said. "Having met with the pathologists, our medical personnel and investigators, there is now sufficient information to continue a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Woolmer, which we are now treating as suspicious."

Pervez Mir, the Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman, told AFP: "The police suspect that Woolmer may have been murdered. They have started an investigation." Unconfirmed reports suggested there had been signs of strangulation."

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Extremely sad if true. To lose such a person to murder over something so trivial compared to a humans life is extremely distressing.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Word just in. English Newspaper in Islamabad reporting that Woolmer was Murdered (Alledgedly). Apparently something to do with bookmakers + International Betting.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

heard that he was supposidly going to expose a betting ring. Sad if he was murdered, seeing as it is only a game.

I wouldn't go believing what the papers say because the investigation hasn't finished yet.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

I have heard this story on many USA radio & TV stations. Sad that it takes a event like this to get Cricket in the US media.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Confirmed by Jamaican Police. Murdered, Strangulation apparently. He had a broken bone in his neck + Cuts all over his face.

This is possibly the worst thing to happen in international cricket.

Sorry. I am not able to type what I really mean to say.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Thank you for respecting the rules of the forum.

Seriously though, this is absolutely tragic. I'm not sure what the Jamican penal code is as it pertains to murder, but I hope they find out who did this and lock him or her up for life.

People just take sports far too far and this is sickening. I am the biggest sports fan you will ever meet, but to me a sport is a sport. When my team wins, I'm happy. When my team loses, I swear. But I would never consider doing anything as stupid as some people do.

How unfortunate that what has been a superior tournament thus far is playing second fiddle to the acts of some idiot.

Unfortunately, some countries, particular the asian ones, its more than a sport, it is life to them. With so much pressure on them, losing is not an option. And if they do lose, they are treated with disdain by their own people and country.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

You know one thing for certain, no one will ever take that Coaching job.

And that goes for any team that has this type of expectations from their Cricket team.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

This is an absolute tragedy for cricket and a very, very sad day. I cannot understand the motivation of people to do such a thing. There are rumours flying around that he was murdered due to a betting scandal he was supposedly going to uncover.

A very sad day for all involved in cricket.

Re: Bob Woolmer RIP

Pakistani news channel Geo TV's CEO Hamid Mir just came on TV to announce that Jamaican police have arrested a non-Jamaican citizen. He claims not to know about the identity of the person, but more may be known in the next 12 hours.
