Breaking News - Drugs bans on Asif and Akhtar lifted

The Pakistani Cricket board has done a backflip with bans for illegal drug use on Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif lifted.

The board has acquitted both players stating that it was "clearly, plainly evident that Shoaib Akhtar nor Mohammad Asif were ever warned or cautioned against taking supplements."

Very weak stance taken by the PCB. It was proven that both players has taken the banned steriod nandrolone but because neither player was warned about taking banned substances and both get off without penalty.

What a joke.

Hmm, this doesn't look good.

Someone needs to be punished for this. If not the players, then someone with the PCB or even the ICC for not doing enough to prevent drug use.

Re: Breaking News - Drugs bans on Asif and Akhtar lifted

Ashraf said the crux of the decision to overturn the ban was based on this technicality. "Shahid Hamid (chairman of the original committee) accepted the fact the PCB rules should have applied to the matter and that it was an internal matter. But the judgments his tribunal gave were according to WADA and ICC rules. It was this technicality that formed the crux of the new decision."
'We respect the decision' - Ashraf

You might, buddy, but no one else does.

It states later that 'exceptional circumstances', on which the players defended themselves, were defined by the PCB 'on a significantly different plane' than the ICC. "The standard of 'exceptional circumstances' under the ICC code and the PCB regulations is entirely different in terms of language, scope and meaning...
In other words, in Pakistan you're allowed to cheat.

But the report also points out that while under ICC regulations it is the players' responsibility for what substances are taken, irrespective of intent, fault or negligence, the PCB's anti-doping regulations impose no such "onerous burdens on the players," instead placing responsibility on the PCB to ensure its players are educated. This responsibility, says the report, has not been fulfilled comprehensively.
Oh no, not the horrible onerous burdens of being expected to not take drugs! What a ridiculous burden to impose upon a player!

"I think there are lessons from this to be learnt for everyone. For all players this is a very good lesson because the responsibility ultimately lies with them for what goes into their body.
Except of course in this case, where Asif and Shoaib Akhtar are obviously not responsible and shouldn't be punished.

What a joke!

This looks terrible for cricket and the ICC. The Pakistan board is indeed a joke. I wonder what the World Anti-Doping Agency think of this. Can they force the ICC to do anything?

I wonder if the drugs would still show up if the players were tested at the World Cup? Probably not. And the WC tests are to be conducted randomly so it is not likely either one of them would be tested. A major black eye for cricket.

Re: Breaking News - Drugs bans on Asif and Akhtar lifted

This is pretty disgraceful. It would only happen in Pakistan. Their board is a joke, but what can we do. Hopefully they wake up soon and change their ways but I highly doubt that will happen.

Re: Breaking News - Drugs bans on Asif and Akhtar lifted

this is upsetting. Pakistan had the opportunity to show they were serious on clamping down on drugs.

at first they actually fooled me into believing that, but before that actually settled in, they do an about face. what a joke indeed.

Re: Breaking News - Drugs bans on Asif and Akhtar lifted

I was actually fooled into thinking my team was being serious on a serious issue for once...The stupider i am for thinking that.
