Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

This is going to be a cracking tournament. So many big names throughout these sides, it will be great to watch.

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Shattered my man A.B is missing out. I'm going to go with a dark horse, in Cape Cobras. Look a mighty strong outfit.

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Delhi and Bangalore hit hard by injuries, be interesting now as Delhi would have been big favourites

Victoria have lost Damien Wright and replaced him with James Pattinson

Victoria and Delhi would have to be favourites for the semis with the Group C looking like the weakest group ever assembled, Deccan and NSW should get through from the other side

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

@eddiesmith Group C could be a cracker - it aint a weak group at all. I would think that caution would be good prior to picking an Indian and Australian Sides. I think there could be some big upset.
@AB De Villiers - The Cobras could be great but they do not have a front line spinner(Duminy I sense will bowl). A Dark horse but keep in mind that the South African side are currently playing 4 Day cricket.

I would think that the IPL sides have an advantage as the competition is played in India and they understand gelling in a short amount of time. I like the look of the Somerset side.

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

I'm picking Deccan. Hard to go past a list like that, they look super on paper. It's just a question of whether they can put it together again after doing it earlier this year.

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Group C is very weak, although with it basically having 2 South African teams in it I can see why you think otherwise, but Bangalore will struggle without Ryder then you have Otago who's best player is Dimi and nothing else after that although if McCullum has his 1 good innings that he has every 2 or so years then they might pull an upset, would be thrashed in the 2nd round though. Then there is the Cobras, they have Duminy and Gibbs with the batting but nothing after that and no decent bowlers

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

A Great way to start the tournament. The Cobras played nicely and Duminy just added to his status. I did not like the issue between him and Kallis though but he made sure that his bat do the talking.

I hope the tournament has many more matches like this one :)

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Yep with IPL teams losing :D

Really does show how weak Group C is when the top team gets done in their first game

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

What a gun is Phil Hughes, sensational innings :D

I am amazed at how weak this NSW batting lineup is and they are only missing Haddin through injury

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Game 2

New South Wales SpeedBlitz Blues 6/144 (20 overs)

Simon Katich 53 (41)
Moises Henriques 27 (19)

Shadley van Schalkwyk 2/22 (3)

Eagles 9/91 (20 overs)

Ryan McLaren 40 (37)

Stuart Clark 3/12 (4)
Moises Henriques 2/13 (3)

Result: New South Wales won by 53 runs
Points: NSW 2, Eagles 0
Man of the Match: Simon Katich

Game 3 (Progress score)

Delhi Daredevils 8/98 (20 overs)

Mithun Manhas 25 (34)
Virender Sehwag 21 (15)

Clint McKay 3/17 (4)
Andrew McDonald 2/17 (4)
Shane Harwood 2/20 (4)

VB Victorian Bushrangers 2/55 (8.2 overs)

Rob Quiney 40 (33)

Tillekeratne Dilshan 1/4 (1.2)

Looking like a NSW/Victoria final already.

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

Well they thrashed the weakest side in the competition with 0 International players in it, the Vics smashed the 2nd favourites :D

Daredevils were rubbish, too much across the line slogging going for the boundary. Both the Australian sides bowling attacks look very good, still interested to see how Deccan go as they could really take it up to the Australian teams.

It was a shit T20 pitch though and unfortunately Victoria have to play there again against Wayamba, it really doesnt suit Victorias batsmen so the bowlers are vital

Get us onto fast pitches and they chase down 200+, or that may only be against teams with weak attacks like WA :D

Re: Champions League Twenty20 2009

The Australian sides (Blues and Victoria) were quite something to watch .. The Eagles were hapless and the Blues capitalized on it. Very impressed with the side. Katich has just underlined his class.

Victoria - Very impressed by McKay - the catch he took off Sehwag was a gem. The Daredevils were extremely disappointing.

I sense the Australian side might play a role in terms of winners of the inaugural event. The Australian sides look very well balanced something which I cannot say over the South African sides.

Shut up. :p

Read the paper today, they've predicted us to finish third in each competition. Got rid of a lot of deadwood over the off-season. Here's hoping we can be a lot more competitive this season.

Well you might add a M.Hussey to your team shortly if he keeps his form up.
