chucking

Re: chucking

Niether "chuck," both are legitiment bowlers. I'm not up and about with Malinga, i have no idea why he bowls like that, but Murali bowls in such away due to double-jointedness, he is basically a wrist spinning offspinner.

Re: chucking

Malinga bowls with that round arm action because when he played beach cricket he would want to make the ball skid off the sand. i guess he just kept it throughout his career.
but i had no idea there were concerns over the legitimacy over his action, when did they occur??

And murali is clear in my opinion, and more importantly the ICC

has mulinga and that muralitherin guy been proved that they chuck or is it a "hyperextension"??

Well, firstly, it is Malinga and Muralitharan.

But more importantly:

Malinga does not 'chuck' the ball by any stretch of the imagination. Chucking, in cricket, is the straightening of the arm beyond 15 degrees. Malinga's arm is hardly bent at all and so cannot straighten by that margin. All he does in his action is bring the bowling behind the back and sling it, keeping it straight the whole time.

Muralitharan is a slightly more complex issue. His arm is naturally bent at about 20 degrees, so he cannot straighten it fully. Any bending in his arm is obviously more visible but the straightening is not beyond the limit of 15 degrees so it is fine. Furthermore, the arm looks more bent than it is because he has a double jointed wrist tricks the human eye.

I hope I have explained it to you, please tell me any parts you don't understand.

Hyperextention is the bending of an arm beyond 'straight'. It has different levels of maximum bending with different people, but I have seen Shoaib Akhtar bend it to a very high level when [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_jhM_II_qw&feature=related]throwing a ball in from the boundary[/ame]. However, they are still liable to the same rules. Any thing over (under?) a negative 15 degree straightening is illegal.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ1OcUxalwg]This video may help you understand hyperextention[/ame]

RP Singh also has an hyperextention, here is a picture of it in full flow. I have drawn in a straight line to help show the hyperextention.

But don't be fooled, only a very few amount of people have hyperextention, it is not a common feature.

But when was Malingas action brought under scrutiny, or wasnt it?

From wikipedia:

Malinga's action has attracted great comment, but it is important to note that it has never been questioned, and that he has not been cited or called for throwing or otherwise using an illegal action.

Re: chucking

Well that explains a lot. phew got a bit worried there. i quite like malinga and would hate to have to see that amazing action remodeled

Don't worry, his action won't change any time soon. Early in his FC career, a coach tried to make the action higher but it didn't work and he made a choice to stick with the action which has brought him so much success.

Re: chucking

Malingas action is not surpirising to watch anymore. The batsmen know about it now and dont have much trouble spotting it. But his yorker is deadly.

Re: chucking

yeah but unlike paul adams he doesnt rely on his bizzare action alone, although it did help! he generates genuine pace can swing it and, as you said, has a deadly yorker

Re: chucking

Their* ;)

Shaun Tait's action has intrigued me substantially but I am not sure how it works. What I do know is that his wrists turns 180 degrees from the load up to the release and that there is a small degree of straightening during the action - it is mutually assured that this degree is well below the limit though.

Re: chucking

yeh it is rather confusing
the way he bowls he must get upper arm muscle damage maybe that what will reslut if he plays in the perth test

Re: chucking

His action is based a lot on strength, hence the high number of injuries. I'd imagine that he if wants to have a career of any length, then some changes will need to be made to it in the long run.
