Hot Spot inventor Warren Brennan has confirmed coatings on bats DO make a difference to Hot Spot readings.

Brennan bought a pile of bats with different coatings and conducted tests, and the bats with 2 coatings on them had their reading on Hot Spot "reduced by about 10 fold".

"Then when the edge came directly off the wood the thing lit up like a Christmas Tree".

Brennan said that "although the Hot Spot system utilises cutting edge military technology, it is a work in progress", and "we need financial commitment from the users of the system in order to keep improving it."

Brennan said he went to Cricket Australia about financial support for the ongoing use of Hot Spot and "they said it's the broadcaster who should be paying for it and are not willing to contribute."

Brennan confirmed the cost per day to use Hot Spot is $10,000.
