Cricketers Pay

Any idea how much players who play for English counties and England get paid from there central contracts?

Re: Cricketers Pay

Depends on the player but the average county pay will be something in the range of £15,000 to £60,000.

Internationally you could expect up to £500,000 but depends on number of games played as well as performance and win bonuses. I'd expect the figure to rise dramatically in light of the IPL etc.

Vaughan's on £300'000 a year purely from his England Contract according to something I read a few months ago. Not sure about county contracts though, must be a fair wage though.

Re: Cricketers Pay

There was an article yesterday on Cricinfo saying how the ECB are going to put up the win bonus for England players considerably. It's probably partly a reaction to the IPL but I suppose something like this has been a while in coming given cricketers pay compared to other sports.

Pietersen's earnt £1.5million in the past 2 years, that's not much less than a top class Premier League footballer. Pietersen is far ahead of the other England players though, in terms of marketability anyway. The county players should be earning as much as the Glen Johnson's or Robbie Savage's of the footballing world at least.

Re: Cricketers Pay

I think comparing the wages of a county player to that of a premiership footballer is way off.

Look at it this way, KP could be said is equal to a Wayne Rooney - in being very well known and one of the top 3 talents in their respective national side. Now, Rooney is likely to be on around £110,000 per week or over £5 million per year, that is without even thinking about sponsorship and advertising.

No England cricketer (save for Flintoff and even his 'golden' earning period was about 2 years ago) currently has that kind of earning potential. Even a lower grade premiership footballer can look to pull in £15,000 to £25,000 per week, which would be something in the region of half the yearly salary for a good to very good county player.

There just isn't the money in the game to pay big wages, so the comparison should really be to that of a Championship 1 or 2 footballer and not a premiership class player.
