Does the Pura Cup or Ford Ranger Cup...

Ever make some profit??? Since there are very little spectators, how do these leagues keep afloat...

Re: Does the Pura Cup or Ford Ranger Cup...

well Pura Cup sponsorship has now ended: it will be known as the Sheffield Shield again.

The Shield loses a heap of money every season, no-one takes an interest in it, no-one goes to the games, and it generally gets no coverage other than a quick what the score is on the news each night.

The Ford Ranger Cup is a little bit different and does make a bit of a profit: not huge profits, but it does make some. Television coverage helps obviously, spectators get through the gate and people by merchandise: hats, shirts etc. so it goes alright in the end.

but it's the same everywhere in the world: domestic competitions get no coverage, and therefore no sponsorship and the like. so everyone loses money.

Really? So its back to Sheffield Sheild? Wow lol

But yea Ford Ranger Cup and 20/20 comp makes profit - Most of these games are telivised on Fox Sports. The only game of the 4 day game to be telivised is the Finail.

The KFC Big Bash and the Ford Ranger Cup would more than make up for the loss that the Pura Cup (soon to be called the Sheffield Shield) makes so CA wouldn't be overly fussed if the four-day competition loses money.

The only way to increase interest in the four-day comp is to start televising a few games. Foxtel has the rights but doesn't want to budge on the matter, they seem content to only show the final and ignore the rest of the season. I don't have Fox but if I did and they telecasted some of the four-day games, I would certainly watch them whenever I could. Showing a few four-day games wouldn't hurt, it would give the competition more exposure and it might encourage a few more people to take an interest in the competition as well as sign up for Pay TV. Fox rates poorly so it's not as if they could use ratings as an excuse, most of the station's best rating shows are on at night.

But, they don't seem to want to move on the matter although they are happy to show all of the one-day games. The downside of this, is that only a small percentage of the population get to see these games so there's less people in general watching.

In terms of money generated though, the English county league would have to be doing alright. It gets some exposure here but over there it would get a lot more plus the teams recruit international players to play.

At least the name is going back to Sheffield Shield, it sounds a lot better.
