Well, the first tour match got underway today. WA posted a respectably sporting 8/242d., Robinson and Voges in the runs with 62 and 72 each. England finished the day on 1/10 with Cook bowled for 5 by Magoffin.

England's bowlers can take plenty positive from the first day's play, all showing they can maintain a respectable economy rate on a pitch that is typically demands the best of medium pacers and seamers. Broad looks to be in fine form, the pick of the litter with 3/47 off a mere 18 overs.

It is quite rewarding to see the return of the tour match as a serious element of preparation for touring teams, and the England side have chosen wisely to give their bowlers in particular exposure to arguably the 3 toughest of the 5 Test venues prior to playing Australia.

This certainly looks like it will be a series of cricket to remember; perhaps the most competitive Australian summer since India's tour in 2007/08.

Not a huge amount of actual footage (it's mainly an interview with Anderson) but a decent wrap up of the day.

I'm not that pessimistic.

They are playing well today, have WA 7/177 in their second innings. Declared this morning at 8/223, with Pietersen and Broad passing 50, the latter playing a solid rearguard action with Swann. It is fortunate England bat so deeply; it appears they still haven't solved their middle order collapse problem.

England are doing extremely well in this match. Australia A was demolished for 230 in the first innings with Smith (59) and O'Keefe (66) the only batsmen to pass 50. The wickets were shared amongst England's second string quicks, Tremlett the best with 4/54 while Shahzad took 3/57.

The English batsmen on the other hand have mostly all performed, racking up a massive 523 in the first innings with half centuries from Cook (60) and Collingwood (89) and a massive 192 by Ian Bell. Pietersen with 5 was the only Englishman not to reach double figures.

When Australia A took the field today for the second time Bresnan struck thrice (Cowan, White and Khawaja for a duck) to have the Australians 3/128 at stumps. Hughes (58) and (White (22) remain at the crease, but with a 165 run lead England will like their chances of securing a win tomorrow on the last day - perhaps even by an innings.

Combined with the poor performances of the Australian players in the Shield games, you have to think that the Australians will be worried heading to Brisbane.

I went the first day, and my main positive out of this was watching Adam Voges bat, I've never seen him bat live before. Played the English bowlers so easily. The Warriors are a bunch of flakes though. It was kind of rubbish watching North grind.
