England In India

Re: England In India

Big advantage for England there. The moisture may have livened up the wicket and will no doubt slow the outfield so the shortening of the game has its pros and cons for both sides.

Re: England In India

The wicket is completely dry as it was covered but the outfield might slow down. India need 180 but thats not going to happen. They're more likely to get somewhere around 150. Good chance for England to register their first win.

Re: England In India

Turns out its not so bad for India. I was expecting England would be chasing whatever India score. But they apparently need 198 according to some D/L calculations.

Re: England In India

India scored 4/166 from their 22 overs, scoring exactly 60 from the final five. Sehwag made 69, Gambhir 40 and Yuvraj Singh 25 not out from only 11 balls. Graeme Swann picked up 2/21 from two overs as England were forced to bowl part-timers for the last five overs of India's innings.

In reply, England are 1/15 after 4 overs. Duckworth-Lewis calculations put the target score up to 198 which has really disadvantaged the English team. India have bowled very tight so far, Owais Shah the only one prepared to do the scoring with 12 not out at the moment.

Required rate is a touch over 10 runs per over now. Ishant Sharma comes on to bowl, new haircut and all.

Re: England In India

Not sure what England is doing out there. Flintoff or Pietersen should be batting in the powerplays. They've completely wasted it.

Bell looks pretty lost out there, can barely get the ball away.

That over was much better though, 17 off that Yusuf Pathan over and England are 1/38 from seven. Required rate is back to 10.66 after being more than 11 during the early part of that over. Shah up to 29.

Batters have been taking a liking to the spinners while the quicks have proven much harder to get away. Ganguly would be very handy right now.

Re: England In India

Ah, Bell's gone. Gets down to it but misses and the slower pace put on the ball by Harbhajan sees the ball hit the stumps.

Pietersen's in now though and hits the first ball for 4, second is a dot.

2/48 from eight overs, Shah on 30, required rate now 10.71.

Re: England In India

England gave it their best but ended up falling short by 19 runs. Shah scored 72 from 48 balls and combined well with Flintoff (41 from 30) as they managed to score at the required rate for a short period of time before Zaheer Khan removed Shah and Ishant got rid of Flintoff in the next over. That was effectively the end of the contest as the remaining batters found it too difficult to try and smash everything from ball one.

England reached 8/178 from their 22 overs, Khan, Patel and Sharma all picked up two wickets to be the multiple wicket-takers for the Indians.

Another improved effort from England but they are still a fair way behind India and India have won the series 4-0. Game Five is on Wednesday at Cuttack.

England drop Bell and Anderson

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

Gambhir and Munaf Patel look to have been rested for India so Irfan Pathan and Rohit Sharma come in for them.

Ian Bell and James Anderson have been dropped for England with Harmison and Alistair Cook replacing them.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

Zaheer Khan bowls a full and wide delivery but Alistair Cook still has a go at it but only edges it to first slip.

1/33 from six overs. Indian bowlers have been all over the shop, 13 Extras already.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

After a good start to England Bopara is out for 24.

England are 2/68 off 9.5 overs with Pietersen on 21 off only 11 deliveries.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

Bopara's gone now, another widish delivery from Zaheer and Bopara connects but it goes straight to Yuvraj at backward point.

2/68 from 9.5 overs. Pietersen has 21 from only 11 balls, five fours already. Paul Collingwood is the new man at the crease.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

Collingwood out for 40 off 64 balls to Harbhajan Singh.

England are 3/157 off 30 overs with Pietersen on 65 off 68 balls.

Pietersen must make 120+ to give England a chance i feel.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

Crucial wicket, Sharma gets Flintoff for a duck.

England are in a little bit of trouble at 4/158 but they still have their batting powerplay in hand.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

At 4/196 off 40 overs England take the batting powerplay.

If Pietersen is still in at the end of this powerplay it'd be fair to suggest that England will have a defendable total on the board. He's currently on 83.

Re: England drop Bell and Anderson

England finished up with 4/270 with Pietersen 111 not out and Shah 66 not out.

India then easily chased the runs with 4 of the top 5 batsmen all getting half centuries. Sehwag was the pick of the batsmen with 91 runs off only 73 balls. Tendulkar and Dhoni both made exactly 50 and Raina made 53.

India won the 5th game by 6 wickets with 38 balls to spare.

Virender Sehwag was the man of the match.

The 6th game will be played on Saturday.
