Eurasia cup for India begins April 23
India A take on Holland first
India A, to be led by Yalaka Venugopala Rao, would take on Holland in their opening match on April 23 in the $74,250 BSNL Eurasia Cricket Series to be held in Abu Dhabi from April 22 to May 5.
India A, Holland and Pakistan A are in group A while Sri Lanka A, Ireland and United Arab Emirates are in group B of the tournament in the preliminary stage.
Sunil Dev, Secretary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Trust which is organising the six-team tournament with the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council at the Zayed stadium, told a press conference today that it would be an annual feature over the next five years.
"The winners of the tournament would get $25,000 while the runners-up would receive $15,000. The Player of the Tournament would be richer by $3,000," Dev said.
The winning team in every match stood to gain $1,000 while the loser would get $500. Each man-of-the-match award carries prize money of $500.
"There are also prizes for best batsman, best bowler, best wicket keeper and best fielder - each worth $1,000. The players, who hit the maxinum sixes (minimum 12) and fours (minimum 20) would get $750 and 500 each," he added.
"Since Pakistan have decided to add three or four players to strenghthen their team, there's a likelihood of India too beefing up ther team with three top players," Dev said.
But national senior selection committee chairman Kiran More rubbished this statement when contacted and said there was no such possibility.
More and his co-selectors had already chosen 15 members for the tournament.
