I have been working hard on my fitness and strength in the gym. How can I test my fitness and see how I'm progressing? What personal fitness tests one can do?
One way would be to do a bleep test, if you can get hold of a tape/cd for the bleeps.
You only need a measured out area and cd/tape player. It'll give you an idea of your VO2 max and to some degree an idea of your cardiovascular fitness.
Hi s_ossy, good to hear from you... I was getting a little worried :S Hope everything is well in your part of the World.
There are quite a few tests you can do but it depends on what you actually want to test and what exercises you are doing. As mas says, the bleep test is great; in my opinion it is the best for measuring maximum oxygen uptake, though I often use the Astrand Bicycle Ergometer Test or if it is mid-programme, possibly the three minute step test.
It also depends on why you want to test yourself. If it is just to see how you are progressing, I would use performance, either frequency, intensity, time or type... or all . This can be used for all your exercises; strength as well as fitness.
