Flintoff and Alcohol

After further reports about Flintoff and drinking it's slightly ming boggling that the guy was even given the captaincy in the first place.

I truly believe that what a chap gets up to in his free time is up to him but when on duty you stay sober and aware that you're firmly in the public eye.

It seems that Flintoff had a real problem and should have had a public rebbutal long before the world cup and his exploits on a pedalo.

It is also interesting to read the bit that Fletcher was worried that Flintoff may take Harmison with him. Although there are no further details I feel that it speaks volume about the mental stat of Harmison and why he is no longer a bowler to be feared.

I kind of agree with Boycott in that if Fletcher thought Flintoff had a problem why didn't he do more to him help.

Surely, turning up drunk to your work is a sackable offence in most industries but it seems that Fletcher flounced off and hid in his room.

I think that Fletcher is trying to do the right thing by bringing it into the open now.

Maybe Flintoff will take notice and cut out the booze, he has really lost since the Ashes '05.

if the knew this he should have done something about it instead of writing about it to earn money. if he had such problems how could he be trusted with the captiancy of the national team.

hes done the right thing by revealing it now but why was he sitting on it for so long? the alcohol problem might have ruined flintoff

Harmison, Flintoff's closest friend in the game, says Fletcher "might lose a few people he once called friend" and attacked him for not tackling Flintoff's drinking in Australia himself.

I think he's right. Fletcher should have taken some action there itself rather than writing about it in his book.

Just to play devil's advocate, if Harmison calls himself a close friend of Flintoffs, why didn't he tackle the problem of Flintoff and alcohol?

It's easy to point fingers but seemingly harder to intervene during the awkward moments.

well it wasnt his responsibility. fletcher was the guy claiming it so he should have done something about it.
