Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johanannesburg

Eighth match is just about to start here with Kenya taking on Sri Lanka. Kenya will want to imporve vastly from their previous effort in which New Zealand completely embarassed them with both bat and ball.

Sri Lanka have a very strong batting line-up with Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and Jayawardene all powerful hitters of the ball. Kenya will need early wickets if they want to restrict Sri Lanka to a gettable score.

Kenya XI: MA Ouma+, DO Obuya, T Mishra, SO Tikolo*, TM Odoyo, CO Obuya, A Obanda, JK Kamande, N Odhiambo, PJ Ongondo, LN Onyango

Sri Lanka XI: WU Tharanga, ST Jayasuriya, KC Sangakkara+, DPMD Jayawardene*, TM Dilshan, LPC Silva, J Mubarak, G Wijekoon, CRD Fernando, SL Malinga, WPUJC Vaas

Toss: Kenya who chose to bowl first

Solid start for Sri Lanka, 0/4 in the first over.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Thomas Odoyo bowls Tharanga for 10.

Jayasuriya immediately on the attack in the next over however and smacks Ongondo for four.

1/25 after 3.3 overs.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Kamande bowls Sangakkara for 30. He breaks an explosive 75 run partnership between Sangakkara and Jayasuriya who is 49 not out from only 29 balls.

And now Jayawardene comes out swinging with a six off his second ball faced.

2/101 after 10 overs.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Jayasuriya and Jayawardene going absolutely nuts, doing anything at will.

Last five overs have gone at 16.40 runs per over!!

2/175 after 14 overs. Jayasuriya 82 off 42 and Jayawardene 42 off 15.

Absolute mayhem here at Johannesburg

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Jayasuriya departs for 88 and then Silva is run out for five.

Jayawardene still on the attack and smashes two fours from the next three balls. That brings up the 200 also.

4/203 after 16.2 overs. Jayawardene is 58 from 24 balls.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Kamande strikes twice in his last over to claim both Jayawardene for 65 and Dilshan for three.

Mubarak goes ballistic in Onyango's last over!!

6, 6, 6, 4, 6!!!!

What will the last ball be? One, boring. :p

Only 29 off the over. Far out.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johnannesburg

Well, that was embarassing for Kenya. There seemed to be nothing they could do though as the onslought just rolled on for Sri Lanka who even after after losing Sangakkara, Jayasuriya and Jayawardene smashed runs at will.

Mubarak's incredible cameo at the end there which included 3 fours and 5 sixes saw him reach 46 not out off just 13 balls.

In total, Sri Lanka made 6/260 off their 20 overs, easily breaking the previous best International Twenty20 score which was 221 made by Australia against England.

I reckon the umpires arms are sore from waving and rasing them so bloody much! :p

Thomas Odoyo was the best peformed Kenyan bowler economically, taking 1/14 off three overs. Not sure why he didn't bowl his final over although there was a sub on for Kenya so that's why he might not have bowled that fourth over of his.

Kamande took 3/48 from four overs.

Absolute mayhem.

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johanannesburg

Kenya are now "struggling" at 33/2 off 5 overs.

i'm sure we're watching the World Cup from the Caribbean again aren't we?

Re: Game 8, Group C - Kenya vs Sri Lanka at Johanannesburg

Kenya all out for a paltry 88. Just not good enough from the Kenyans. They weren't going to win but they could have at least tried to bat out the overs with some decent score on the board in the end.

Obanda top scored with 21 but no-one else really contributed. Thomas Odoyo did not bat either as he was injured.

Vaas, Malinga and Dilshan all picked up two wickets each.

Sanath Jayasuroya was the Man of the Match.
