Good call. I thought only coaches or imports can get paid!!!!!
Is that the case????

im sure ur allowed to pay a coach, and a professional player, it can be an import or a local. im sure in thomson, saltalamaccia and o'niell wont coach for nothing. so what happens there??? is bosworth still on the payroll???

Lets be honest there is no salary cap but if you can get some why wouldnt you.....Its all our dream to be good enought o make a living out of it...

can hardly make a living out of playing local cricket. it seems to be a trend that the usual suspects that change clubs for money are the ones that cant hold down a stable job so its a huge bonus for them to get paid on weekends. and these blokes who we all know who they are, i wouldnt even know which clubs are there home clubs.( or were there home clubs). no loyality

for most of us who can hold down a solid job and get paid ok and could probably change clubs and leagues and earn a little bit more, it would not ever cross our minds. whats a few grand really? a bit of holiday spending money! who cares? as far as im concerned my club is my club for life unless something really wrong happened or we merged with st albans

OH NO, Not St. Albans again!!!!!! They wouldn't need to merge. They will be a powerhouse from now on apparently!!! Maybe Geelong's 2nd VCA side!!

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

in the GCA you are only allowed to pay one player regardless of if you have a coach or a professional player. So it basically means if your coach is different to your nominated professional player then your coach is in it for the love. There must be a lot of love around the GCA then !!

bosworth got coaching role offered to him again at beginning of last season but declined for personal reasons. tstisas chased him big time last season. wanted to stay and play for nothing. salta and o'neil are co coaches who have chased smelly themselves and are giving him a share of there payments. think they have already given it to him so he could go overseas.

Well a lovely notion but get real it doesnt work like that. Im sure Brad gets paid and rightly so. As for Div 2 well its a non argument i cant cop a club who wont challenge themselves to step up to the next level. Cricket and footy clubs are exactly the same they all want success and cant get without having good juniors and mercenaries....

Sometimes it's not as simple as that. Clubs with a small geographic area and that have been pounded from pillar to post in Div 1 and lost players because of it could conceivably have a hard time trying to re-equip themselves for a tilt at Div 1. We have spoken about it before that the former Div 2 structure to not really prepare clubs for a crack at Div 1 but hopefully going forward that situation will right itself.

At the end of the day however, there really are only probably 2 or 3 clubs that will be relegated and possibly only 3 or 4 that have the capabilities to be promoted. I mean, from a physical perspective it would be hard for a St Peters or Alexander Thomson (two clubs with no geographic areas) to challenge a Grovedale (where about 40,000 live) or the traditionally strong East Belmont. There may be a year or two where they perform but it is all about longevity.

So, who do we THINK are the highest paid players in the comp (not including Fergs!)

Bambury would be number 1.
Smelly 2.
Tsitas (or how ever you spell it) 3.
Lindsay 4.

By the way, who cares who gets paid. If they are any good, they deserve it. As long as they don't play in a div that they shouldn't (Big fish small pond)!! I think we know who I am talking about!!!!

lindsay 1. cant see any one else on 10 a year
tstitas 2. got extra to leave straight after games and traning( no socialising clause)
morgan 3
koliba 4 (see no2)
millard 5 . (see no. 2)

Of course. You can only pay what you can afford. I wouldn't imagine the Corio Bays, Little Riovers, Blue West, Lethbridge's etc could pay more than coach.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

big ando is on a squillion at south, along with hornet the two highest paid players in the comp, i think babies arm goes ok too!!!
