Gripping Stuff!

curious as to what grips people use on there bats?

i personally have two grips on at one and prefer the soft ribbed ones. find them very easy to grip.

i do have an octopus one on my newbury which is ok but can slip!

or even if you have unique grip ideas? half rubbers underneath?

Re: Gripping Stuff!

i find if i have two grips i treat the bat more as a guiding tool rather than a baseball bat with one!

Re: Gripping Stuff!

I use two grips. One thin one and a thicker one on the outside. i have really big hands so i prefer a meatier handle. I don't know why I'm blushing as i type this, sounds very wrong lol :embarrassed:

Re: Gripping Stuff!

i use 2 grips... thin grip on the inside, then a thicker, outer grip...

my outer grip is one of the grey nics. breast cancer grips :cool

Re: Gripping Stuff!

1. I have a grip, I dunno what brand cos I got it put on at the shop, but it's awesome, it keeps coming off (which I guess is good because it means the bat doesn't slip) so they glued it down

Re: Gripping Stuff!

i i really have a habit of wearing out grips! in the same two places! top of the handle and middle back of the handle (blade side) every where else is fine!

Re: Gripping Stuff!

2 good quality English made grips, in a Chevron style. Silvery colouring usually

Counterbalanced with 30cm of lead tape wrapped around the top of the handle, with an overlay of Elastoplast tape.

Re: Gripping Stuff!

Not 100% sure if it's legal or not, but never had anyone look closely at the handle. It doesnt effect performance, just helps the pickup.

I used the Impala Redback a season or so back, and loved the counterbalance in it. And I also got hold of one of Owais' old bats that happened to have Elastoplast tape used in a similar method. I've used Lead tape on tennis rackets for a while so borrowed some and put it on my bat.

It picks up a fair bit lighter, you'll also see Jaques Kallis with a similar counterbalance on his bat.

Re: Gripping Stuff!

reminds me of one of the Aussies using a half a squashball inside the batting glove!

Hussey I think?

Re: Gripping Stuff!

Yep, as you said to make the bottom hand less dominant. Bob Meuleman it was that told him to do it, thats why he pointed to his glove after that scintillating innings in the WC final.

Re: Gripping Stuff!

and all prefectly legal!

cant have been comfortable though. wonder which way round he had it?

Re: Gripping Stuff!

I'm pretty sure he had it in his left (bottom) hand. I think if its in there you can't grip it as tightly which will mean that the top hand will have to be dominant.

But as you said, I don't think it is terribly comfortable

Re: Gripping Stuff!

i use two grips on my bat personally. has anyone tried the new GN pro performance grips or the aero grips? They are the ones that go on a bat like a tennis racket grip, you just wrap it around the handle. I'm thinking about getting them for my bat.
