Group B - Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka

Second big match in a row for Bangladesh. If they win, they'll be through.

Bangladesh have won the toss and will field first.

Sri Lanka Upul Tharanga, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara (W), Mahela Jayawardene (C), Chamara Silva, Tillekeratne Dilshan, Russel Arnold, Farveez Maharoof, Chaminda Vaas, M Muralitharan, Lasith Malinga

Bangladesh Shahriar Nafees, Tamim Iqbal, Aftab Ahmed, Saqibul Hasan, Habibul Bashar (C), Mohammad Ashraful, Mushfiqur Rahim (W), Mohammad Rafiq, Mashrafe Mortaza, Abdur Razzak, Syed Rasel

Sri Lanka now at 24 runs / 0 wickets at the 5th over. Not the best start for Bangladesh :/

Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

A battle between two teams who had big wins in their first games. This might turn out to be a Super Eight match, or it might not.

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field.

Sri Lanka 32-0 after 6 overs.

There was a clear run out opportunity for Rasel to eliminate Tharanga, but he missed the stumps.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Good batting from Jayasuriya so far.

Sri Lanka 63-0 after 10 overs, and Bangladesh will need to do something soon or they're going to be looking at a big target.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Rafique comes on and breaks the partnership.
He got Tharanga for 26, thanks to a superb one-handed grab by Aftab.

Sri Lanka 98-1 after 14.2

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

2 more misssed opportunities for Bangladesh.
Ashraful catches Jayasuriya right on the boundary ropes, but he was going over, so he had to throw it back in to prevent the boundary.

And then a few balls later, Jayawardene ran when Mushfiqur Rahim was easily collecting the ball, and Rahim had all the time in the world but threw at the stumps before he had a good angle.

Just like the earlier run out chance, he could have taken a few steps in and still had enough time to throw after getting closer.

Sri Lanka 122-1 after 20.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Rain stops play.

136-1 after 24 overs

The run rate has at least been slowed down a little by the spinners.

But if any overs are lost today, then this fast start from Jayasuriya is going to make the task even more daunting for Bangladesh!

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Jayawardene finally out.

Sri Lanka 202-2 after 35.3

By the way, Jayasuriya retired hurt a few overs ago.
Don't know how bad it is.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka finish 318-4

That's going to be out of reach for Bangladesh.

Unfortunately, they're hurting their cause at the start of the run chase, already reduced to 7-2 after 4 overs.

Bangladesh need to put some runs on the board here, just to try to keep the NRR in check.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

21-3 after 9 overs.

This is not good. If Bangladesh lose by too much, they may not even have a chance going into their game against Bermuda.

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

Just goes to show how one cricket game differs from the next, Is this the same team that beat India? I guess Bermuda shouldn't feel too bad with their totals so far, being the less experienced team. However it's not over yet we'll see how many runs they finish on.

It will be an interesting game with Bermuda and Bangladesh. Bermuda's last chance to come up with a surprising win. I still remain hopeful

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

73/6 after 28 overs

The next game between India and Sri Lanka should be a cliff hanger

Re: Group B - Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

A slaughter for Bangladesh.

They have no hope of advancing on run rate now.
They have to hope that Sri Lanka can beat India.

If India win, they'll be safely through.
