Hot Spot to give the World Cup a miss

World Cup 2011: Hot Spot unlikely to be used in the World Cup | Cricket News | ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 | Cricinfo.com

Hot Spot is being deemed impossible to set up given time restrictions and cost.

According to Brennan, to have had enough cameras for the World Cup, an order for an additional eight to 10 Hot Spot cameras should have been placed in January or February this year. The cameras take four to six months to build and there are only four or five companies in the world that have the know-how to make them.

My question here is, why did they not place the orders in January/February (or even better, earlier), instead of leaving it this late and saying it is impossible to make happen?

I'm not convinced by the UDRS as it is, and Hot Spot is the only part of it I agree with completely, it is a very good tool.

I don't understand why it's not part of the regulations for the UDRS. In my opinion, especially if it is involving such a big tournament as the World Cup that puts cricket on display to the entire world, it should be all out or not at all. No bits and pieces, it's either all in there or let the umpires do what they should be doing.

Also, what happened to Snicko? One day it was there, and the next it was gone.

Farcical. If the ICC want to be taken seriously then they need all of the technology able to be used available. UDRS needs to be used in 100% of games or not at all as well.

Usual ICC incompetence. Are most sporting bodies plagued with this sort of politics, game-playing and all round skin-flinted attitude to things?

Just let the **** ing umpire make the decision in the shorter formats.

I sure hope so, or those other bodies are laughing at us poor cricket fans. I think it all comes down to T20s, ever since they came into existence everything has gone crazy. Give them to the ICL and get rid of the idiot players who want to play it. Random babbling...

While they're at it, they might as well let the umpire make the decision in Tests as well. If there was UDRS in 2005, then Australia would have won the Ashes. And how boring would that have been? How boring would the wonderful 3rd Test have been if Kasper had been given not out? It's part of the game, always has been, always should be.

UDRS, tweaking with ODIs and the IPL. Apart from all having abbreviations, they've all brought about a rapid descent in the quality of cricket.
