I am a loser

I am a loser

also can u suggest some helpful exercises as i am a legspinner also i am becoming worse in my bowling.

after this feb 2010 my parents want 2 stop my cricket and concentrate on my studies
they tell i am a loser i cant achieve anything.cricket is not my game they tell me.
But every moment i love cricket, its my passion.
my friend who is a left hand batsman is now to represent the state team is much ahead of me.
i am not jealous of him its just that why me? am i just born to lose.when will i get a chance to prove when will good luck turn towards me.
i went 2 times to selections but both the times i failed to achieve anything.its like i live in dark shadows all the time
i used to go and practise most of the weekdays alone bowling a ball and bringing it back my self whilst he used to just play or relax.I used to practise for hours while he didnt

but in the end he gets the fruit while i get the rock

guess the proverb
"every hard work reaps its fruit"
is wrong

i am helpless ,loser, frustrated,crying
:(:(

Mate you're young, you've got years ahead of you. I've got two sons aged 8 and 11 and neither of them are 'Good' cricket players, but they enjoy it and very slowly they're getting better at it. Both of them try and bowl legspin and both of them have different degress of success with it. But your proverb you've mentioned probably means over years and not just months. It's taken me the best part of 4 years of bowling constantly to get to the level I bowl at. You've got to hang in there and accept that it's going to take you a lot longer to get where you want to be. You're not a loser you just need to be patient and work towards your goals not comparing yourself with anyone else.

Re: I am a loser

Chin up. spin up. That is what i tell my kid when he is bypassed or not selected. It is hard to get a break bowling this stuff at an early age. They cant stop you spinning a ball can they?

Your left handed batting friend would make a good practise partner. Some one who is as keen on wicket keeping would be ideal. Batsman get in the way, so once a week at least with out a batsman is necessary to see what you bowl without interference from a batsman.

1 Bowling to targets on the pitch so as to develop a well pitched up stock ball on the stumps. Completely eliminate any short balls (unless on purpose, surprising the amount of tied down batsmen get out to long hops).2 All the while working on spinning ball hard with wrists and fingers a ball, against a wall , hand to hand, watching tv. Combine the two.

Re: I am a loser

I know this isnt particularly encouraging but what are you like with bat and in the field?

If your a complete rubbish with the bat and you drop everything it you would have to be a very very good bowler to compensate for it, if your just a slightly better then average bowler but are crap in other departments and a lad who isnt as good a bowler but can bat well down the order and you can back him in the field they'll pick him first. Trust me because it's happend to me, 2 seasons i got selected for the rep side when i was a year younger then everyone else but i could hold a bat and i was quicker in the field and i was a decent bowler, but the following season my bowling has improved a hell of alot but i hadn't batted proper and i had got a bit slower running due to a few niggles but i'm a good slip fielder but the rep side had the lanc's under 16 main slip fielder so i wasn't getting in there, and i wasn't selected 2nd season. A lad who doesn't even play senior cricket (when i'm a 1st/2nd teamer) well a bit of 4th team stuff on a sunday but isnt a bad bowler with the new ball but is a decent bat and is a top fielder, so he got selected, even though in our primary fields I completly out played him.

Honestly i know you feel like shit for a day or two after but pick yourself up get in the nets and improve your all round game a bit, im not saying be an opening bat but get competent with the bat and you get another tick on your cricketing C.V and your chances of selecton will improve. And your mate will get sussed by the state team as a lazy player who doesn't have the desire and will not strive to improve past what he naturally has. In england you see all these talented 1st teamers who were in the county junior set up but would rather drink after games and piss about in nets rather then improve and when you have players in the set up who fight for there place through desire alot of coaches will keep hold of them becuase they want to improve.

But then again, when you look at the core, and go to the start... you may just not be good enough?

Re: I am a loser

thanks 4 supporting me , i dont want to be rude abt my friend i was mentioning abt he is not a bad player or over confident guy. but didnt practise the whole yr like me he teases me often whats the use of practising so long but i feel legspin dosent come like that. i feel like the unlucky guy. my frnds tell me very dog has its day but i never find my day, only bad luck.
also i suck at batting so i have been trying to improve.the problem in batting is that i am not quick enough.when i see the bowler bowl i am not able to decide which shot to play to fast bowlers.when i do decide my feet doesn't move.that is why my frnds call me a slowpoke.also my timing is not proper i dont bend and play with style all in all i am awful, including fielding too i am slow slo slo slo!!
ii think i hav no reflexes.
my coaches dont think my efforts of long hrs of bowling is helping.its like they r in their own world.I used to bowl a month ago unbelievably well with loop and rip ,turn. but after a fever or somethin i dont know i hav lost my good ol bowling too
bowling legspin was the only thing i was reaching a potential at now i have lost that too

Re: I am a loser

just stick at it. youre young, youve got years ahead of you.

firstly, im not sure what it is youre trying to achieve with your cricket, its every kids dream to play their favourite sport at a professional level. but only a few players make it, so you have to be realistic. on the other hand, you might only dream of playing for your local side. the best way to approach things is to enjoy playing cricket, put in 100% effort 100% of the time, and whatever happens, happens.

maybe you practice for hours every day for your entire childhood and only ever make it into your local 3rd XI. maybe someone else only practises for an hour a week and plays for their country. that isnt important, some people are naturally talented whilst others arent. all that matters is that you ENJOY playing cricket, and that you apply yourself 100%. and the rest will take care of itself.

dont get down about not being selected, because then the cricket isnt fun anymore. when its not fun youll lack enthusiasm, and as a result your performance will decrease.

what you need to do is forget about being selected. youve been rejected twice, so just think about it as if youre never going to get selected. but then think to yourself that you dont care either way, you just enjoy practicing and playing cricket. go about your practice with enthusiasm, get as good as you can get. and then see what happens.

too many kids get too serious about sport at a young age. its supposed to be fun.

with regards you losing your spinning ability a bit - i wouldnt be surprised if this isnt as a direct result of you feeling down on confidence about your cricket. the sooner you get your chin up, build your confidence up, and just start enjoying playing, the sooner youll find form again :)

as macca said, "chin up, spin up". just keep at it.

with regards batting, if you cant time the ball then just play everything straight. practice enough and eventually youll find your timing. and then the rest will take care of itself. i too struggle to time shots against quicker bowlers (anything north of 60mph). playing against a quick bowler isnt about rushing a shot, its about creating extra time. that means you need to learn to see the shot earlier, reflexes dont really feature into it. you watch a top international batsman and they look like theyve got all the time in the world against Brett Lee at 95mph. time is an illusion, what matters is how quickly your brain processes the information available to it. the quicker your brain works, the more time your body has to react. the only way to achieve this is to spend time at the crease playing sensible shots with good technique. that means playing straight, with a straight bat. and dont try anything else until you can time the ball well. the more practice you get like this, the more you train your brain into seeing the shots early, and the timing will follow. you literally cant get enough practice, ever!

Re: I am a loser

keep ya chin up mate, have you considered professional coaching. Because it sounds like you are keen to succeed and most good coaches will see that, and will work with you to make yourself better.

PS. Self Confidence is everything, you need to be as positive as possible, if you keep thinking negative you will get negative results.

That is how it works here too in the younger rep sides, they are looking for all round cricketers and you have to be a pretty good legspinner to make it on that alone.

If your batting is not very good spend a little less time on bowling and make a complete study of batsmanship, ( and wicketkeeping) it will help your bowling no end anyway. If you know the correct shot to each type of delivery then you can plan your bowling attack and defence methods. But keep it simple, that is where a good coach can help.

If you are not at all athletic in the field you must specialise, once again deduct a small amount of bowling time to become a proficient , say, slip catcher.

One reason legspinners have to train practically all year (you must have some breaks though) is to fit all this in plus work on legspin, which every one agrees is the hardest craft in cricket to master.
