IPL Game 25 - Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore

Game 25 of the IPL is not too far away from starting with Bangalore hosting the Kings XI Punjab.

Punjab have actually been in good form of late after starting off the tournament quite badly, they've won their last four games in a row and are looking a good side. Bangalore have two wins but really need a NRR boost as it sits below -1.5 at the moment and that could prove crucial if finals spots go down to NRR.

Here's the respective elevens,

Banglore Royal Challengers XI : *R Dravid, W Jaffer, V Kohli, CL White, JH Kallis, Misbah-ul-Haq, +DT Patil, P Kumar, Z Khan, DW Steyn, A Kumble

Kings XI Punjab : SE Marsh, JR Hopes, RR Sarwan, *Yuvraj Singh, DPMD Jayawardene, IK Pathan, PP Chawla, +U Kaul, Gagandeep Singh, S Sreesanth, VRV Singh

Bangalore have made two changes, Cameron White comes into the team as well as keeper Devraj Patil. Mark Boucher and Bharat Chipli are out of the side.

For the Kings XI, West Indian Ramnaresh Sarwan and wicketkeeper Uday Kaul come in. Kumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lankan keeper is out as is Karan Goel. There is a rumour that Sangakkara is injured.

Anyway, the toss is done, Yuvraj Singh called correctly for the Punjab side and they will have a bowl first.

This should be a great game.

Bangalore are 4/83 after 14 overs. Their start was embarassing, Jaffer, White and Kallis all back in the shed for ducks saw them in massive trouble at 3/15 in the 4th over.

Kohli and Dravid came to the rescue and have recovered the innings somwhat but they are still a long way behind what they should be. Kohli was out about 5 mins ago for 38, Dravid is still there on 39 and he will be need to be there at the end for them to make a competitive score.

Sreesanth has two wickets with Pathan the other scalp. Shaun Marsh ran Kallis out for his duck.

Uh-oh, Misbah is LBw to Piyush Chawla only eight runs. Massive, massive wicket for the Kings XI team, Misbah can hit a ball a long, long way.

5/98 in the 16th over, Dravid on 46 not out from 42 balls.

Yikes! Now Praveen Kumar is out after only two balls for a duck. Chawla getting some mega turn on this pitch and Kumar edges behind to keeper, Uday Kaul.

That's their 4th duck of the innings, 6/102 after 16 overs.

This pitch is really suiting the spinners, Kumble could be in for some fun later tonight.

Oh no! Patil run out after a horrible mix-up. Dravid called no after playing the ball to mid-on but Patil kept coming.

7/106, all falling apart for Bangalore.

Good strike rate for Patil though, 4 off one ball. :D

Another wicket!! Chawla again in the action, he bowls Zaheer Khan for a first ball duck. That's five ducks now!!

8/116, Dravid up to 60 not not and is running out of partners.

And now Dravid goes, not what Bangalore needed. Rahul hit a big six off VRV Singh the previous ball but he is out here trying to smash the ball over covers but he gets a big edge to Jayawardene at third man.

9/124, Dravid out for 66. What can this last wicket bring about?

Re: IPL Game 25 - Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore

Bangalore are all out for 126, Dale Steyn cops a yorker from Irfan Pathan and just manages to dig the ball out. Unfortunately, the ball goes stright to the keeper, Uday Kaul who hits the stumps with a direct hit and Kumble is short of his crease.

So, 126 for the Royal Challengers. Will it be enough though? You would think not with some of the scores seen so far in the IPL. Only Dravid and Kohli contributed anything of significance and they were the only batters above double figures, next best was Extras with 10! The pitch is a turner so Kumble and maybe White will enjoy themselves if they are given the ball.

As we've seen in this league so far, starts are crucial in this Twenty20 stuff, so Punjab's chances will rest on how they begin their innings with the bat.

Punjab cruising at 2/65, Hopes fell early for five and now Sarwan is out for 31 after knicking Praveen Kumar behind to the keeper.

Shaun Marsh is still there on 16. Yuvraj Singh is the new batsman.

Re: IPL Game 25 - Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore

Yuvraj Singh didn't last long, he was out for one and Shaun Marsh was the 4th wicket to fall with the score on 106.

That was all the wickets that fell though as Mehela Jayawardene and Irfan Pathan remained not out and guided Punjab to 4/127 and their 5th consecutive victory.

Praveen Kumar took two wickets for the Challengers, he also bowled a maiden over with Zaheer Khan also taking two wickets.

Bangalore just didn't score enough runs, their poor start also didn't help their quest for a competitive score, if they can start a lot better they will begin to win games. The Punjab train keeps rolling on though, they've won their last five games as have the Rajasthan Royals, perhaps we have two new teams as the leaders of the competition at this point.

Sreesanth's 2/16 earned him the Man of the Match award.
