IPL Game 38 - Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata at Mumbai

Game 38 of the IPL is in progress with Mumbai taking on Kolkata at home. Mumbai won the toss and decided to field first. Their bowling efforts have been superb with their attack leaving Kolkata's innings in a dire mess.

Kolkata sit precariously at 7/55 in the 13th over, Ganguly has just got out for 15, which is the Knight Riders best score to date. Earlier, Shaun Pollock ran through Kolkata's top order, taking 3/12 from four overs. Dwayne Bravo, Rohan Raje and Dominic Thornely all have one wicket each with Pollock and Robin Uthappa combining for the run out of Aakash Chopra.

Total shock for the Knight Riders at the moment, their top order has completely collapsed and at this rate they might struggle to get 100.

Mumbai Indians XI: *SR Tendulkar, ST Jayasuriya, RV Uthappa, DJ Thornely, DJ Bravo, AM Nayar, SM Pollock, RV Pawar, +YV Takawale, RR Raje, A Nehra

Kolkata Knight Riders XI: Salman Butt, A Chopra, *SC Ganguly, DJ Hussey, Mohammad Hafeez, +WP Saha, LR Shukla, AB Agarkar, Shoaib Akhtar, I Sharma, AB Dinda

Agarkar edges to Tendulkar at first slip and now Sharma hits Thornely a return catch.

9/65, Kolkata may not even get 70.

Yep, didn't get there, Shoaib Akhtar hits the ball straight to Tendulkar at mid-wicket, that's his fourth catch and Raje's second wicket!!

Kolkata are all out for 67, we could have a quick game on our hands here.

Couple of facts too,

- Lowest score in the IPL so far
- Fifth lowest Twenty20 score ever

Tendulkar out for a duck in the first over, Shoaib gets him caught behind after the little master swishes at one. Mumbai have recovered since then though, they're 1/17 in the second over, this may not not go on for more than another half hour.

Uthapps out for 10 but it doesn't really matter, they're 2/48in the 4th over. Jayasuriya smashed Akhtar for 22 of the 23 runs his second over leaked. Sanath has 36 from only 11 balls. Staggering.

Sanath Jayasuriya. What a deadset gun player he is. He flails Sharma to the boundary off his pad (leg-byes) for the third time in the over to finish the game off and give Mumbai a crushing win in this, the 38th fixture. He finishes with 48 not out, a final strike rate of almost 300 and probably Man of the Match honours too.

Mumbai reach 2/68 from just 5.3 overs, a complete smashing of Kolkata in the end, their bowlers had no answers to the onslought from the Sri Lankan. They win by 8 wickets with a whopping 87 balls remaining.

Kolkata's problem was their batting. Their display tonight was terrible, to only score 67 was rather pathetic and then their bowling capped off a shocking night for them, letting Jayasuriya smash them to all parts of the ground. Full credit to Mumbai though, they were awesome tonight, the bowling and batting was superb, everything went right for them.

Tonight's game only went for a total of 20.5 overs, hard to believe isn't it? A game of cricket in two hours and 14 minutes, and it had everything, wickets tumbling and the big hits at the end.

An easy win to Mumbai tonight, they've really hit some form of late whilst Kolkata will need to rethink their moves after their sub-par effort.

Worst performance ever in IPL. And moreover, Sanath Jayasuriya is coming back to his original form. It is a good sign for the upcoming matches for Mumbai Indians.

What was surprising in the match was Sanath Jayasuriya scored 22 runs in one over of Shoaib Akhtar hitting some spectacular sixes in leg side. Those who missed it can watch this video of that particular over.
