Line and Length.

When i bowl alot of the times im so inconsistent. Some times i can bowl perfectly and some of the times its wide. I've tried going both around and over, and i originally bowl over the wicket. Are there any tips any of you can give me so I can improve my consistency?

I will post a video when i next go down the nets.

Re: Line and Length.

that same thing happens to me. What my problem was my run-up.If you have good rhythm then everything works out great because you feel good when you are bowling. what i would do if i was you is just when you go to nets, get some kind of marking and put it on the good length and try to hit it every time. this will boost your confidence and when you bowl in match you will do better.

Re: Line and Length.

Certainly getting a consistent and regular run-up will help your rhythm and help to pinpoint exactly where it is you are going wrong when you bowl wides. If you imagine you are bowling in a railway track leading from the start of your run-up in a straight line to the where you want to pitch the ball this should help.

When you bowl wides, are they offside or legside wides most often??

Re: Line and Length.

One thing would be to make sure you don't fall away in your delivery stride because this is often the cause of legside wides, especially when bowlers are tired. If you have a coach at your club ask him to watch you and he should be able to spot it. If you don't or he's busy then focusing on being tall at the crease, especially with your non-bowling arm, helps.

I'm guessing the legside wides are more common and the offside wides are you adjusting too much when you're trying to get the ball on target. Not sure though.

Re: Line and Length.

If you are falling away then you need a nice strong follow through. this will generate more pace and better line and length.

Re: Line and Length.

I seem to think that i follow through good enough. Just maybe it could be the way i release the ball and WHERE i release the ball.

Re: Line and Length.

One way to focus is to put cones all the way down the pitch in a straight line. Include your run up in this.

The aim is too bowl as straight as possible and within the coned area. Also, have a target to bowl at, something on top of off stump is ideal. Line is more important than length, although you do need to work on being able to drop the ball where you want to.

Re: Line and Length.

MC,
How long the distance of cones be placed and should it be placed in the run-up as well.
What would be the consideration for pace during that time.

Re: Line and Length.

I can also vary and spin the ball, the trouble with me spinning it is that i seem to lose grip of the ball just before i release it. I seem to think that this is the reason i keep bowling full tosses and bowl it too full. Is there anybody that can help me with this?
