Pura Cup final week!

It's the biggest game of the season, held over 5 days. Starting on the 19th. Sadly held on Monday to Friday for Fox Sports television. No-one will watch it anyway, no-one will attend the game because it is Monday to Friday, but what you can do. Fox Sports now rule the world.

Tasmania vs New South Wales at Bellerive Oval.

I'm thinking another one-sided affair to that held last week between the two teams. Tasmania i think will win by plenty.

Anyone else got any opinions?

Re: Marsh returns to lead Tasmania in final

Tasmania has created history as it stormed to a crushing win against New South Wales in the Pura Cup final. The win was Tasmania's first ever Sheffield Sheild/Pura Cup Final win, a feat is had never achieved before until today.

It all started on Monday, when Tasmania won the toss and chose to bat first on a seemingly good wicket at Bellerive Oval. Tassie struggled early on though as NSW bowler Doug Bollinger destroyed the top order taking five wickets. But, middle and late order contributions helped the apple islanders to 340 all out, with Luke Butterworth and Damien Wright adding 111 for the 8th wicket.

NSW too struggled early on with the pitch making conditions good for bowling. Phil Jaques was the standout with 82 and Grant Lambert scored 61. But only Dominic Thornely provided any support and NSW were dismissed for 230. The pace battery of Hilfenhaus, Wright and Butterworth serving the Tassie boys well with Butterworth taking four wickets with Hilfenhaus and Wright three each.

This gave Tasmania a lead of 110 on first innings and they only consolidated from here. Michael Di Venuto's good form with the bat continued and scored 61 opening the innings for a second time. George Bailey racked up a 50 but this was Butterworth's game and together with keeper Sean Clingeleffer, added 164 for the 7th wicket with Butterworth hitting 106 and Clingeleffer 107. Damian Wright again chipped in, making 47, another worthy contribution. Eventually, Tasmania were all out for 460 leaving NSW with a monumental target for victory (only 571 runs off 91 overs!!!).

The Blues started the day without loss (0/3) but it all came undone from there as Wright and Hilfenhaus tore through NSW's batting line-up and dismissed them for a paltry 149, well short of the target.

Tasmania have finally won the Sheffield Shield/Pura Cup and what a win it was. Very happy for the Tassie boys as they have played great cricket all year and definitely deserved this victory.

They ended up winning by 421 runs.

Man of the Match was Luke Butterworth.

Re: Marsh returns to lead Tasmania in final

question. how did NSW have only 91 overs to reach the target? was that how many overs were going to be bowled on the last day?

what if hte match ended in a draw? who wins the Cup?

NSW had one over left on Day 4 to face after Tasmania were bowled out very late that day. They then had 90 overs on Day 5 for a total of 91 overs overall.

Tasmania would be declared the winner. Tassie finished on top of the Pura Cup ladder and earned the right to host the final. They only have to draw the game in order to be the Pura Cup champions.

Re: Marsh returns to lead Tasmania in final

bit of a one sided game in the end

Tasmania winning by plenty.

Tasmania were just too good for New South Wales and for most of the competition
