Martyn proves his value

Australia were in major trouble at 3/34 and needed someone to stand up last night, enter Damien Martyn.

He smashed a quickfire 50 in 30 deliveries without taking any risks at all, just played his usual game with confidence and timed the ball beautifully, was a delight to watch and changed the match and was the reason the Aussies won. No doubt Hussey played the anchor role and was as important however he has his Ashes spot, Martyn does not which makes this innings even more precious to him. Back to the wall stuff, pressure on Australia to remain in the ICC series and gain a mental edge over England prior to the Ashes and Martyn's career on the line and he produced.

Credit to Martyn last night and he deserves the number four spot for the first Ashes test.

Re: Martyn proves his value

fully agree that he was the difference last night but, we cant just assume that he'll produce those sorts of innings every time, he has to put in a few more innings like last nights to win my vote.

Re: Martyn proves his value

Moved to appropaiate forum. This is about his champions trophy innings and it is a ODI.

But yes was a goood innings by him, shows that he is a class act. Hopefully he can continue on with this form for the rest of the champions trophy and beyond.

Re: Martyn proves his value

Awsome display of batting from Marto, one of the best timers of the ball i have ever seen. Being one of my favourite players it is great to see him performing well.

Re: Martyn proves his value

I agree that he will retain his spot in the test side, but I'm not sure how safe Langer will be or for how long. They can't just keep ignoring Philip Jaques.

Re: Martyn proves his value

what about hayden ?? atleast langer is showing some form with the bat at the moment

Re: Martyn proves his value

Martyn still has it as seen with his past two match winning knocks. I thought he was gone but he has bounced back strongly with 3 50's in his past 4 innings.
