Mid Season Team Reviews

alright so i daresay there would nearly be a representative for every club on this forum by now, so how about everyone gives an honest assessment of where there club is at. if any north guys on the forum want to add anything feel free

NORTH GEELONG
Review- after a big off season of trying to recruit players, the club found itself with only one big name recruit being captain Col Millard from geelong city. The year was looking as though it was going to be a long one before round one, when key bowler Brad Scown hadnt bowled a ball until he first played which had to be in the seconds due to lack of training. the team was always going to be in a rebuilding stage, as seen with Dom McGlinchey (15 years old) and Shaun Kingwell (16 years old) both in the plans for the year. After losses in the first four rounds to South Barwon, St Josephs, Grovedale and Geelong West, we finally picked up our first victory against Geelong City. However, we then lost the unlosable game against Lara, which was seemingly a nail in the coffin as even a victory last round against Newcomb left us three games out of the 6, whereas a victory would have left us one game out.

Shining Light- Col Millard has probably been the best all round wagpie this year to date, taking wickets and making runs on a regular basis. Juddy just needs to turn his thirtys into big scores as he has the ability to do

Lowlight- Losing the game to Lara and having Grovedale 7-80 and not capitalizing would be the biggest disapointments to date.

Hightlight- Sam Halls century last game, as well as Scownys opening spell against Newcomb.

Predicted Outcome- win more than 50 per cent of the games, hopefully all of them and hopefully still make the finals. we will probably just miss out.

GUILD SAINTS

Review -
after getting dropped down to divison 3, the clubs main focus for this year was rebuilding the clubs structure off field. with a completely new committee and a new president, a new square and money in the bank, prior to round 1 things were looking good. with an excellent start to the year, with only losing the 1 game, the rest of the season is looking very bright for the boys from west fyans this year.

Shinging Light(s) -
having simon lees back, who's torn teams apart, claiming 31 wickets before christmas and bowling very well
also, steve kelly finally hitting form, with some very good scores, and batting at his almost full potential

Lowlight -
getting hammered in the last game prior to christmas. over cocky, and a very good opponent took control of that. hopefully the boys are bought back down to earth from that, and treat each game with respect from now on

Highlight -
marcus cowdery (121) and steve kelly's (92) 164 run 4th wicket partnership against little river, which pulled us out of a bad position from 3 for not many

Predicted Outcome -
more than likely make the grand final, more than likely against moddawarre. hopefully enter the game with more respect for them, and make for a better game of cricket

Barwon Heads
Review -
After winning last years flag, the Seagulls currently sit top of the table at the mid way point of the season, and would be extremely happy about their chances of going back to back

Shinging Light(s) -
The acquisition of Jason Mallett has paid dividends, with the ex Drysdale opener the leading run scorer in the competition. Captain-Coach Chris Welsford has also found form with the bat

Lowlight -
A loss to Queenscliff away from home in which Mallett made 90 of an eventual total of only 170.

Highlight -
A massive one day win over Drysdale, along with an important first up win against finals aspirants Collendina

Predicted Outcome -
The top four in the BPCA looks set in my opinion, although the positioning of those four teams in still up in the air. The final game against St Albans should prove crucial in the final standings.

St Albans/Breakwater-

Review -
Starting the year with Jason Murray as coach and the return of Sean O'Leary from a year off things started very well with wins over Barrabool, West & a get out of jail game against Newcomb. Then things havn't gone our way since with 3 rain affected draws (v Ocean Grove 8/70 sta's 140 & Anglesea dnb sta's 330) and a bad loss last week to the cobras, sitting 4th at the break with hopefully all our bad luck behind us for the season most of us are content with that.

Shinging Light(s) -
I'd say our batsman, having made over 300 twice out of the three two day games we've played. With Nik Mallyon ave 60 Johnny Irvine 50 Sean O'leary 40 Jason Murray 35 and Rory Fitzgerald 30. Mainly I think this is a good sign considering this is where clubs think we're vulnerable.

Lowlight -
The rain and the loss to Collendina, not been able to chase 170 was disappointing having said that anything can happen in 40 over 1 dayers and we were fairly ordinary all day, we did miss our leading run scorer in Nik Mallyon and leading wicket taker Matt McKay without making excuses. All credit to Collendina they're a very very good side

Highlights -
*Taking the last 8 wickets for 30 against Newcomb incl 5-0 when we looked gone to get out of jail and win by 20.
*Johnny Irvines 137 n.o v West in rd2

Predicted Outcome -
Luke Bennett will get keen and have a big 2nd half having only played 2 games(hopefully:rolleyes:)
We'll be looking to step it up after Xmas having not played any of the top sides yet and hopefully can firstly secure a spot in the six then look at maybe the top 3.

so far 6.5/10

WALLINGTON REVIEW

The wallabies are a much improved unit so far, mainly due to sticking with camos beliefs and having the abiltiy to carry them out. all bowlers are doing well and the fielding is pretty good most of the time, although im sure boofa biemans may disagree (all dropped ones seem to be his). Matty Shipsides has hit his line and length all year, boofa always creating chances, Luke Wright when playing good pace full and straight, the introduction of young jarrod atkinson still learning his craft but producing the goods when asked and the old chopper willigen still managing enough wobble and lack of pace to annoy a few out. Butchy cameron and young gunna connoley doing the job also when the opportunities arise. We bat ok in most games but just have those little patches that cost us that big score to dominate matches. still getting good starts then fall of a bit but end up with competitve scores. hopefully we can post some bigger scores after xmas and keep bowling well and achieve some comprehensive wins.

highlight - overall improvement and discipline with the ball, good even attack.

lowlight - smashed by queenscliff 1st round after being in the game until the 50th over

prediction - sssssshhhhhhhhhh (no cheetahs here) more improvement i hope.
