Only KFC Twenty20 International: Australia vs India at MCG

This game signals the start of the one-day series for the Australian summer with the test series being over. Australia takes on India in a Twenty20 game at the MCG, a game which India intends to treat as a practice match.

There's a couple of changes to the Australian squad, Ponting is out which means that Michael Clarke will lead the side again. Clarke first captained the side against New Zealand late last year in Perth. Ben Hilfenhaus is into the squad as Shaun Tait has decided to take an indefinite break from all forms of cricket. There is one newcomer though, by the name of Hussey. No, not Michael Hussey, but his younger brother David who was in superb Twenty20 form in the domestic KFC Big Bash competition which took place over the New Year break. Michael and David don't play in the same team often, the last time they did was an Australia "A" game three years ago. David moved interstate to Victoria to further his first-class career after limited opportunities at WA. He is also a favourite to make his debut in this game.

India have a massive 17-man squad and more than half weren't part of the test squad. As mentioned before, India have decided to treat this game as a practice hit-out rather than a full blown affair. With such a massive squad, and their little concern about the result, it is unknown what type of team will be on the park for tonight's game.

These two teams have met twice before, with India winning both times. India are the reigning Twenty20 World Championship winners and they'll be looking to stay true to that title. Australia will be hoping to get an edge before the one-dayers start on Sunday.

Should be a good game this one. The recent verbal stoushes between the two sides coupled with the various issues of late should see this game become an entertaining one, both teams will be fighing tooth and nail for victory.

Can't wait for this game, Friday night and 90,000+ at the G.

Great to see Dave Hussey rewarded for his recent form. Will be interesting to see the reaction Mr Singh recieves if he plays in this game.

Piss poor batting display by the Indians, silly slog shots instead of playing proper cricket.

Edit* Gilly out Hodge in.

There was only one word to describe India tonight: pitiful. That was a totally embarassing performance. Even though the Indians weren't taking the game too seriously, they were pathetic tonight, looked completely outclassed and made to look second rate by a rampaging Australian line-up.

MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. Sehwag was run out for a duck in the first over after a brilliant diving stop by Michael Clarke at backward point who then threw down the stumps with Sehwag almost jogging to his crease and then realizing he might be in trouble with Clarke fielding!! It turned out that he was well short of the crease. Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik followed soon after and when Robin Uthappa was bowled by James Hopes, India has slumped to 4/20. Rohit Sharma didn't stick around, neither did the captain and soon India's innings was a shambles at 6/49. The only shining light was Irfan Pathan who scored 26 and he was the only Indian batsman to score double figures. Newcomer Praveen Kumar didn't last long, neither did Harbhajan Singh, Sreesanth and then Pathan was the last man out with the score on 74.

Nathan Bracken bowled beautifully for Australia, taking 3/11. Adam Voges scared 2/5 off only two overs and at one point was on a hattrick. In fact, one of most entertaining points in the game was when Sharma came out to face the hattrick ball and every single Australian player was around the bat, this left Sharma with the whole MCG field to hit the ball into. Australia's psychological edge got to t him and the Indian side with Sharma almost getting caught after prodding the ball, similar to the prod on Worms World Party. The rest of the Australian bowlers, Brett Lee, Ashley Noffke, Hopes and debutant David Hussey all took one wicket each. In fact, every single Australian bowler took a wicket.

The total hardly proved a challenging one for the Aussies with Gilchrist and Clarke getting Australia off to a very good start. Gilchrist fell to Kumar at long-on after making 25 but it didn't matter as Australia ended up winning by nine wickets, finishing off the complete thrashing of the Indian side.

A crushing win for Australia and one that will give them a mental edge for the upcoming Commonwealth Bank Series. The first match of that series starts on Sunday with Australia playing India at the Gabba up in Brisbane.

Tonight's Man of the Match was Michael Clarke for his catch, run out and 37 not out.

Awesome match. I was watching and listening to the game.
We happened to kick the Indian's arse in the twenty20 match last night.
Good to see that the Indian cricket team were blooding their youngsters last night.
