Pakistan in New Zealand

Pakistan in New Zealand

This should be a good series given the current status of both teams. The just-completed 3 match ODI series in the UAE was a very close affair, with NZ winning the decider by just 7 runs in the final over (surprised there was no discussion on here actually).

Aside from the fact that it'll be a good contest in its own right, I'm looking forward to seeing how the two sides shape up given we have Test series against both of them in the next few months.

Re: Pakistan in New Zealand

Interesting first two days of the tour match. Pakistan's bowling lineup performed well, with Asif (2/60), Rauf (4/43) and Arafat (2/21) being slightly let down by an expensive Kaneria (2/102).

Chasing 234, Pakistan were pretty awful by all accounts with only Farhat (52) and Alam (77) passing 50 for a total of 286.

Ultimately it's kind of depressing when a 31 year old quick (Rauf) is looking like your best bowling prospect. Arafat doesn't look bad either, but remains to be seen how he does under tougher conditions. The less said about the batting the better - they're evidently still heavily reliant on Khan and Yousuf to make their runs.

Re: Pakistan in New Zealand

On the third day of the first Test, Pakistan have just commenced their first innings and are 1/21 after losing Manzoor bowled Martin for 6.

New Zealand made 429 all out after a good (if painstakingly slow) allround effort - Vettori and Taylor were dismissed on 99 and 94, with McCullum making a solid 78 and opener Guptill 60.

Vettori and Bond still look like the only worldclass players in this Black Caps side, which is a very ill omen for Pakistan. Their bowling attack is truly toothless, with only Asif looking like he has the ability to create wicket-taking balls regularly.

It's going to be a very long summer at this rate.

It was an awesome match though. Goes on to show that Test cricket is very much alive even in this T20 era. If anything I would've liked to see Pakistan take their catches more often (especially Imran Farhat!). Other than that, it was great to see Bondy back into whites and Umar Akmal... wow... what a talent! The big question mark would be on his consistency though, because that's something almost all the Pakistani batsmen are uncapable of doing.
