Peterson fined for celebration

Re: Peterson fined for celebration

and fair enough!

I thought it was a bit over the top

and it's in the ICC Code of Conduct

so good on 'em

Re: Peterson fined for celebration

Eh. It's like most sport federations/ governing bodies. They "lay down the hammer" for stuff like this, while turning a blind eye and pleading ignorance to much more serious matters. I am all for enforcing the rules, do not misconstrue me here. But it is the "selective enforcement" and what type of infractions they go after that gets to me. Look at the NBA and NFL in the States. They clamped down on "celebrations" but have done nothing (serious) to address drug problems, off field violent incidents. It is only a matter of time before a serious gambling scandal hits American sports. I feel the ICC has much more serious matters to address at this World Cup than an over exuberant Robin Peterson.

Re: Peterson fined for celebration

DJQ,
I could understand your point about selctive enforcement and sadly enough that doesn't help when consistency should be across the board. We have that problem here locally, when players are disciplined, not given the same treatment. My guess is because he broke the stumps, which was probably considered damage to property, it was frowned upon.

I didn't see the incident, so I don't know how the incident was played out.

Re: Peterson fined for celebration

Unless I am mistaken, the stump in question held one of the video cameras. I am sure that had alot to do with the fine. I have no problem if that was the case. I am sure those cameras are quite expensive. As long as it is a point of "replacing" the equipment he damaged or "renummeration" to its owners . The question is if the stump held no camera, would he have received a fine?

Re: Peterson fined for celebration

How does the stump camera not get damaged when a batsman is out clean bowled to a fast bowler?

The punishment that has been handed out seems a little harsh to me. The first report I had heard indicated that Peterson had only been reprimanded and not fined, and at that point I was slightly surprised that there was even a disciplinary hearing about it.

Of course the ICC should have rules about not damaging their property. The issue is more the principle of the thing, and the fact that the camera could have been damaged, than the stumps themselves. Presumably Peterson could have taken the stumps out of the ground as a souvenir if he had liked.
