Professional Cricket

Hi,
I currently play for my local club for the under 15s. It is my last year before I start proper senior cricket, at the moment I do not play for any county or district side. I was wondering could I still make it as a professional cricketer if I perform consistently for my club, How?

Thanks

Re: Professional Cricket

The first thing is to do as you suggest and perform to a consistently high standard for your club. This will at least give you a chance of being noticed, especially if you manage to get your name in match reports/paper week after week (although its only a small chance).

Schools cricket is another are where they can scout for talent, so it may be worth asking your sports teacher if they ever have any contact with the county/district and if there is any chance of a trial.

It may be worth seeking out the name of the coach for your age group at county level and seeing if they are holding any coaching workshops or open training sessions (they occasionally do this) or just to have a chat with them and seeing what you could be doing to get a chance of a trial etc. It's going to depend largely on the coach and their set-up though, some are more open than others.

The biggest thing against you is that the guys who were selected for the county/district sides at a young age have had a number of years of a decent level of coaching, which is something that can be difficult to catch up with. It's not impossible but it would require a lot of hard work and dedication.

I too strive to play at county level and had a trial but they didn’t inform me when it was so I missed it ,a year later I went to another trial but by then everyone had improved greatly, now I have to try become much quicker in my bowling and fielding and also do so without being injured 24/7 which is hard, and the the academy team is stronger than ever so its gonna be very hard for me.

Re: Professional Cricket

you need to find the best local team, join it and be the best you can be to go far!

Re: Professional Cricket

i started at 14 and am 16 know i had never played before not even at school but i did have the massive advantage off being left handed and at first i was awfull then sudenly i got quick like overnight and after a wile i got noticed and got trials but at that stage it was not my pace that let me down but mainly my runup and incosistancy so over the last year ive slowed it down a lot and bowl dot to dot with swing and still quite quict and i seem to be getting alot off atention off the academies so just keep training in the nets and always give 100 % effort even to net practice and you should have a chance
