Question about oval shaped bat handle.

With the recent talk about Gilly's squash ball in his glove I was reminded about my mates bat. His Puma bat for the bottom 1/3 of the handle changes to an oval shape rather than round for what I thought was the same purpose of using the squash ball.

Why wouldn't Gilchrist simple use one of these? Are they allowed?

Re: Question about oval shaped bat handle.

Gilchrist uses a higher grip for a start. So i'm not so sure about the oval shape on the bottom of the handle.

who knows.

I think the Squash Ball enabled him to open up his grip a lot more than usual, which essentially didn't allow the bat to twist and turn in his hand.

Re: Question about oval shaped bat handle.

The squash bal sat i9n a specific spot on his palm. Didn't matter where he hgeld the bat or what grip he used or what shot he played, it stayted where he wanted it.

The oval shaped handles are only of major benefit if your grip is strictly text book. I don't think I have ever seen one of those grips except in a text book.
