Ranji Trophy Super League

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

I follow the fortunes of Jharkhand, who play in the Ranji Trophy Plate. No other reason than our professional here in England plays for them, really.

And, just to re-iterate the point made above, he's a way off being good enough to feature in an English county side. In fact, he can't even make the Jharkhand side at the moment!!!

Well, he lasted all of 2 minutes and 4 balls in his début match

I know the game you are referring to, however it was the last match he has played in, as opposed to the first ever match he has played in.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

Many states in India dont have proper cricket facilities so the standard of cricket is very poor over there like Jammu Kashmir, Orissa, Himachal Pradesh etc. There are very few good players from those states.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

Yes they should put more money in development but many people cant afford to get coaching faclites. If they want development of sports in these states then they will have to provide faclity for free to people.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

Here is a Ranji Trophy player update for the Super League matches currently in progress:
  • Venugopal Rao scored 112
  • Irfan Pathan took 4 for 71
  • 17 year old PJ Sangwan took 3 for 38 for Delhi
  • Gambhir hit 89 in the following innings
  • U Kaul hit 162 against Utter Pradesh
  • Praveen Kumar took 4/60.
  • VRV Singh has taken Punjab's only 3 wickets for 71.
  • Kaif is 44* off 57
  • Raina is 65* off 66.
  • Pankaj Singh took another four wicket haul
  • Badrinath scored 143 for Tamil Nadu

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

VRV Singh gets 5 out of the 6 taken despite going for over five runs per over and Raina makes his 65 into a 116*.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

I forgot to ask you manee, who do you support at club level? Or are you not bothered as long as the national team performs well?

That one :) :). This is my first season following it though.

I just follow my favourite players: Badrinath, Raina, Kumar, VRV Singh and others.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

I thought that might have been the case, probably the more sensible way to support something, more chances for success lol.

Ye, lol.

There is a good article on Pradeep Sangwan, the 17 year old Delhi pacer. He is rated as the best U19 left arm pace bowler in the country. He opens the bowling for Delhi with Nehra out with injury.

Hitting the right areas

Nagraj Gollapudi at the Wankhede Stadium

On the surface, "bowling in the right areas" seems the blandest cliché bowlers utter. Ask a batsman about the most difficult kind of bowling, though, and the reply will likely be the same. This was Rohit Sharma's response when asked about the bowler who worked him out on the first morning of the Ranji game against Delhi at the Wankhede Stadium: "He was perfect, hitting the right areas, which made me think."

I think raina and kumar have bright future. Havent seen badrinath but vrv has been very unimpressive from what opportunities he got.

VRV has the natural talent of consistant pace over 140kph, he should get the coaching his talent deserves. He can be the wicket taker that India have always missed in Tests, his FC strike rate of 44.2 did not come by chance, it came because something is always happening when he is bowling.

Badrinath is the most consistant FC batsman outside the Indian squad. He has an FC average of 58 and has scored approx. 7 or 8 centuries this year alone.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

Judging by those stats you'd the selectors would be fools to ignore Badrinath for too long.

Get him in there learning the international game, if the big 3 (4 with Laxman) retire tomorrow, India will be in a massive hole.

His FC stats are far superior to all other Super League players with the exception of Dravid and Tendulkar and he has performed at every level. Get him in the Test squad and put Ganguly and Laxman on notice, they hae cruised by their whole careers and they may flourish or wilt under pressure.

It is not just Badrinath either, Raina has done well this season and Parthiv Patel has had a Badrinath-esque streak too.

Re: Ranji Trophy Super League

but didnt parthiv scored those centuries in the plate league? what was the quality of opposition that badrinath has been facing? regardless of that i think he deserves a go soon at the expense of either ganguly or laxman both of who average in the low 40s.

Parthiv does play in the Plate League but scored abour 7 centuries for India A against Kenya and Zimbabwe first teams and South Africa A. Badrinath plays in the Super League but like Parthiv has scored most of his runs this year for India A against the aforementioned opposition.

VRV Singh ends with 7/112 off 21.1, this gives him an FC strike rate of 36.8 (taking away Tests).

By comparison, and this is taking away Tests, these are the FC SRs of current Indian Test bowlers.

Zaheer Khan - 42.6
Munaf Patel - 46.4
Sreesanth - 61.2
RP Singh - 45.8

Top performers outside the Test team:

Ranadeb Bose - 55.8
Gagandeep Singh - 48.2
Shib Paul - 52.2
Ishant Sharma - 51.8
