I don't know, Im just taking a punt but i would assume that most of the people of India wouldn't be all effigy burning, racial slur throwing that the media has portrayed them as. There are those sorts of groups in every country, just remember back to the Cronulla riots, they were caused by one group of idiots, but now they are being brought up internationally and all Australians are being portrayed like that

The majority are not like that. But there is no fun in showing the reaction of a non effigy burning, average Indian fan, on TV. The media tries to make money out of this sort of stuff.

Despite what i think of his recent actions i believe there is a massive difference between being arrogance and being class. By that i mean although he may be arrogant and not conduct himself the way he probably should he manages to get away with it because he is a class act.

Yer he got given a good team when he took over aswell but thats not always a good thing as that way the only way to go is down. He's done a good job with the team and as there is no suitable replacement for him as captain then it makes sense to keep him.

people are sayin how come he took it this far??? if he didnt report the comment he would b called a bad skipper for not supporting team m8s... captaincy at any level is a lose - lose situation...

as for all this racial slur.... the indians need 2 respect the judgement of the board and accept the penalty.. they need 2 get back on playin cricket...


as for sacking the umpy.... U GOTTA B KIDDING!!!!! he made a mistake... he had a bad match.... he is a preffesional, human error occurs in every job!!!

And there is a lot more to captaincy than what goes on on the field. He must have at least some good captaincy skill to manage all the players. Sure he might not play in what people of a bygone era would have liked, but there is no denying his captaincy skill. To bounce back from loosing the Ashes for the first time in 20 odd years to taking it 5-0, something that hasn't been done in 80 odd years. And to bounce back from loses in the Commonwealth and Chappell-Hadlee series' to go on to win the World Cup without dropping a game. And to loose 3 greats of the game, one of them possibly the best Fast bowler ever, and the other, well the likes of him will possibly never be seen again, and yet he still continued on his merry winning ways. So to sum up my long rant, Pontings a great captain, even if he doesn't always play the nicest brand of cricket

He'll never be a great captain because hes not respected around the world. Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor were.

As a batsman, I'm a Ponting fan. Entertaining, positive batsman with all the shots and able to dominate a bowling attack. As a neutral I enjoy watching him bat.

Regarding the Indian series and his personality and values etc, I can't comment on as I don't know him and also haven't been watching the current series. He does come across as arrogant but thats just my opinion.

As a captain, I think taking over from a great such as Steve Waugh was always going to be a no-win situation in terms of criticism. If the team wins, people say he got a great side from Waugh, if they lose, he's not up to it. I don't think he's as good as Waugh and was surprised that he got given the job ahead of some other players but in terms of results he's done better than I thought he would.

Looking at the current side, I don't think there are too many alternatives for the captaincy. Ideally you'd want the captain to be one of your batsmen as you don't want to overload your main bowlers with the responsibility I think. Of the current batsmen I think the only other candidate would be Hussey. Gilchrist & Hayden are too old, Symonds, Clarke, Jacques are either still finding their feet in test cricket, or starting to establish themselves within the team. I think Clarke will eventually become captain but he needs to cement his place first.

It depends on the criteria. Is it someone who dominates or someone who can bat for long periods of time.

If its the first, I would say yes, Ponting would be right up there. He's going through a lean patch at the moment but over the last few seasons he's been in tremendous form.

If its the second category, guys like Chanderpaul and Kallis come into the reckoning.

Other guys I would consider would be Hussey, Sangakarra, Yousoff & Pietersen.

I haven't seen much of them recently to make a fair call on it but have been seeing a lot of Kallis and Ponting quite a bit so my opinion is based on those two as there's been a lot comparison between the 2. Currently, based on Ponting's run of recent scores, and the 2 criteria I mentioned earlier, I would go with Kallis.

Kallis has been in tremendous form. He's always been able to bat for long periods of time but this season he's started to dominate opposition attacks, something for which he's been criticised for previously. He's been a completely different batsman after being dropped for the 20Twenty WC. It just doesn't seem that you're going to dislodge him as he's just so technically brilliant and has tremendous concentration. (The Aussies don't even bother sledging him cos they know its a waste of time). Ponting dominates but he's always likely to give you a chance. Bear in mind that the standard of the opposition needs to be considered as well so it'll be interesting to see who performs better when SA & AUS meet again. But as I said my opinion is based on who I've seen this season and current form. If you asked me over the last 3,4 or 5 seasons I'd say Ponting purely because he can take control of a game in no time and does so consistently.
