Shakes

I've seen on movies etc where they get loads of vegetables, blend them all together and drink them, is this a good way to get the goodness from them?
i myself hate most vegetables, i love fruits but not vegetables and to me this seems like a great idea to avoid having to sitdown and endure the nasty taste.

Also anyone reccomend any good blenders, recipes or anything and would 1 shake a day pretty much cover the intake of vegetables needed?

Re: Shakes

First let me say that shakes are great: convenient and quick to make and full of goodness.

You need 5-10 portions of vegetables a day, the fresher and less processed the better so it would be hard to get them all in one sitting.

That said, get yourself a magic bullet blender. They are cheap, hard wearing and you can make loads of different shakes to whatever taste you like.

I will pick up on one thing you said though. You hate MOST vegetables?

That's like saying I don't like food. the term covers such a variety of foodstuffs you couldn't possibly hate most. I'll bet you have not even tried most.

Look at this list and tell me you hate over 50% of those veggies: List of culinary vegetables - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That's before we get into the thousands of different ways to actually cook them.

If you think you hate vegetables you are doing it wrong ;)

Re: Shakes

yh , but its buying the damm vegetables i like, i much prefer just going down to morrisons and buying loads of vegetables that i can blend through the week, and if possible for it to taste nice, on a site i read it would be good to include whey protein etc. i really wud like some recipes to take away the possible nasty taste of a vegei shake.

thanks on the blender info i shud be getting one soon, also 5-10 portions! i get like 1 lol.

Re: Shakes

Have you ever tried Spinnach bunged in with something you like, even a basic sarnie, you hardly know the spinnach is there. Currently at Tesco's they sell a bag of lettuce type stuff, there's about 3 different types in there - rocket, cress and something else and I kid you not, the blend of these 3 types of lettuce is short of divine - it tastes delicious! I don't know how old you are Storm, and I'm going to sound like a right Dad here, but I've seen the S**t young people eat and it's horrific. I reckon you might be wise to just change some of your other eating habits e.g. don't drink carbonated fizzy drinks or sweets, try and reduce the sugary sweet things you eat and you may start to appreciate the flavours or other types of food? Think of your body as an engine and that it needs to have the right oil and quality fuel in it to perform best. A lot of this depends on how serious you are about your fitness and performance - just an idea?

Re: Shakes

In Australia we have like a bottled Vegie and Fruit mix, it's called V8.

Doesn't taste very nice as it's very tomato-ish, but I found when I added pepper on top of it, it made it spicier, just a thought. And as they said, make sure you appreciate the taste of what your eating.

You could also try different spots on the tongue, I learnt in science that some spots detect sweet, some sour etc. When I get a food I don't like, I chuck it on the sweet spot and it tastes like nothing.

Haha:p

Re: Shakes

We have a similar juice over here called V8; great with a good splash of Worcestershire Sauce :)

Storm's diet is generally quite good but he does have a veggie issue, although he does like his fruit.

My advice would be to mix vegetables with fruit in the blender. This one is quite good:

I would say a minimum of two large glasses a day if you are not taking veg any other time, though peas are really good for iron [I think you like peas].

If you are planning to throw in a scoop of whey powder, only do so after a workout.

Remember that the longer a veg is picked the less nutrients it contains. If you cannot buy your vegetables regularly, buy frozen ones.

Re: Shakes

Also good news after doing my workouts im really seeing the results, i only had 1 lesson yesturday so i went in the gym for an hour and a half then went to the nearest cricket pitch and bowled a few and they where much quicker, i then finished the day by going back to the gym for 2 hours and did an intense core and leg workout.
