Simulated World Cup

I've decided that I'm not spending enough time with cricket. Between running the BCFCL, helping with the tour, modding the forum, watching on TV, doing commentary for cricketeurope (check me out on the AUS-ENG game tomorrow!), I think I still have time for some more.

To that end, I've decided to simulate the World Cup using Syedur Rahman's simulator. I spent the last 4 hours entering all the squads into the simulator, and then going through some recent scorecards to come up with a starting XI. This will also be useful for anytime in the future, if the BigCricket Sloggers want to go on a real international tour!

Now I'm ready to go. I'll post up results, and scorecards and commentary on request for anyone who cares. I'll try an follow a schedule as follows:

Tonight: Round 1 of the Group Stage
Tomorrow: Round 2-3 of the Group Stage
Saturday: Super 8s
Sunday: Semifinals
Monday Finals

Anyone else care?

So the first round of the group stage sees one massive upset, and one smaller one, with two associates picking up wins. It'll be interesting to see where things go from here, and also how close I come to the actual proceedings :D

Out of the above 3 predictions, I think the IRISH are lock to win. In fact, of all the associates, I think they will be team most likely to get to Super 8. We shall see / hope

Well, some big surprises there! I kind of thought this may happen, because some of the associates have some inflated averages from playing the majority of their matches against one another. That being said, i'll see this through to the end. If England plays like they did (in real life) today, they may well see themselves on an early flight home.

Some huge surprises here with Pakistan, South Africa, and England gone! I hope the real World Cup is this unpredictable. Something tells me it won't be.

Honestly, no.

I can hope for the associates to do well, but not even in my wildest dreams coudl they make it to the finals against one another.

The associates obviously have inflated averages, from playing each other more than full nations. Since the sim has no idea about strength of opposition, we see what we see. That being said, it's still a fun exercise. If anyone has a more complex sim, let me know and I may run this thing again!
