Site speed issues
We, like you, have been noticing issues with site speed that flair up randomly for some time now. We thought the issues were software and data related, and have been running a number of optimizations on our databases and related queries over the past several weeks. The problems mitigated and then sporadically returned leaving us scratching our heads.
Last week and thru the weekend several of our servers started going offline for periods of 5-15 minutes. After lengthy investigation, it turns out that two NICs (network interface cards) in two different boxes were going bad. They have been replaced. Additionally, we have manually tested all 20 NICs in each of our ten boxes to eliminate this as a cause of future outages or slowdowns.
