Re: subbies season 07/08

Last weekend saw the candidates for champion team for 07/08 reduced to 4 with the favourites,Malvern bowing out and the current champs still in the race for consecutive titles.
Bops chased down Malvern's 293 with 1 wicket left in a thriller with ex test player Adam Dale getting them across the line. The Roosters skipper Monto Perera made 91 off only 66 balls in a great display.
Caulfield easily accounted for Brunswick in the other semi with Leigh Baldry, son of ex Vic Bob Baldry making 120.
Willy way too good for a disappointing Mount Waverley with Seagull's skipper Craig Sheedy a handy double of 55* and 3/30 off an amazing 29 overs in what could be an ominous sign for Box Hill next week.
Box Hill just got there in the other semi with a thrilling 1 wicket win over a brave Oakleigh side,Barry Ensil the standout with 102 out of 178.
So,2 games down to the wire and 2 one sided ones leaves us with 2 tantalising GF's to come.
In E/W Box Hill host Willy in a replay of last years championship final with nothing between the 2,maybe home ground ad might give the Hillmen a slight advantage but will stick with Willy to make it 2 in a row.
In N/S I might leave that one to you Bucket but for the record will go for Caulfield but with not a lot of confidence.
With the promise of nice weather we should get big numbers along to see 2 enthralling contests, good luck to all.

Re: subbies season 07/08

Ok piston my friend and the other 10 readers we have
quick post mortem
mt choked again
b/h finals exp. got them over the line
what a waste of money for malvern to finish out of it
caulfields enthusiastic supporters probably draged then over the line in what i thought would have been the two sides making up the numbers

preview

b/h v willi
think i would rate b/h over willi just b/c of the form line.b/hs batting goes deep and thier bowlings quite handy, and i hear that willi have two important changes due to footy commitments and of course they might be 1 for early...lol

caulf v bops
bout time bops batting clicked this week without relying on the money men to rescue them against a pop gun attack.caulfilds batting is their only chance ,but might struggle to survive esp. if bops bowl first on a wicket that normally seams for the 1st hr

good luck boys

Re: subbies season 07/08

In a summary of the semi finals in the 2's on the east west side.
The two favourites have won through to the grand final.

In the 1st semi 1st placed Altona defeated 4th placed Werribee by 37 runs. Very low scoring game for the normal road that is on show at Grant Reserve.
In Altona's innings of 172 the opener Wesley got 50 and Ash Peters coming back from the 1s scored 42. Best of the bowlers for werribee was Darren 'Batman' Batties (c0ckhead) with 5/35 well done Darren.

Werribee then went into bat with a few overs to play that night. At stumps however they had slumped to 5/35. On day two they battled hard but ended up only reaching 135. Best of the batsmen was Robbie Dixon(another ************) with 52. Best of the bowlers was chips Rafferty with 4/42.

In the second semi the favourites Endeavour Hills comfortably beat Box Hill. Suprisingly it was Endeavour hills' bowler who did the job. They rolled the Hillmen as Piston likes to call them for 163 in only 71 overs and Endeavour's very classy batsmen had no trouble in reaching 6/187 off only 52 overs. The peake's were the destroyers again with Chris Peake the man of the match with 4/29 and 55. Brother Shane also had a great match with 1/51 and 64 not out.

Bad luck to Werribee and Box Hill but i feel that Altona and Endeavour Hills have been the best two sides all year and they deserve to be playing off for the title.
Good luck to both teams.

The Box Hill wicket turned a little but wasn't a raging turner.

Be wary of Justin Farrow. Don't bowl short to him as he murders short-pitch bowling.

Re: subbies season 07/08

In hindsight, we were 30-40 runs short.

But anything over 150 in a final is hard to chase. Especially when you rely on four batsmen to may a score (May, Goldsmith, Farrow, Snell).

Box Hill's bowling relies on the Blake's. Shepard hardly bowled (I have never rated him as a player) and Fortington stole a three-for.

Pressure will get Goldsmith as he likes to score.

Hopefully Croc knows who his players are and can count properly.

It was a great game to watch, even though the scorer's box was an oven with no fan/air con on Day 1 and only a fan on Day 2.

Re: subbies season 07/08

What a great grand final it was on the east west side.

Well done to Box Hill they bowled very well on day 1 and just snuck in on day 2.
Bad luck to our boys, but you don't win to many grand finals when you only make 158 on day 1.

It was a much played where the bowlers were dominant. Andrew Blake is a gun bowler for Box Hill and he has a great tank bowling 15 overs straight to start the day. He is well supported by brother's Sam and Tim with Fortington and Shephard bowling his gentle left arm nude.

Williamstown's batsmen let them down. Sheedy again was the star stratching his way to 60. He won't mind me saying that because it wasn't his best innings but it just proves how good the bloke is making 60 in a grand final when out of form. Murdoch, Drain and Hodges offered some support but in the end the 3 run outs cost Williamstown probaly the extra 20-30 runs they needed.

Day 2 was really Williamstown's day. There were a steady fall of wickets all day as the game shifted from advantaging one side to the other. Speakman got 2 big wickets early with Goldsmith and i think May in 1 over. Murdoch, Clemson and Sheedy all got 1 each before tea. At tea Box Hill were in front with the score 5 for 110 or around about with 2 batsmen set in Rutherford who went on to make a very good 50 and Farrow who ended up making a very handy 24.

However after tea it was the King's show. Daryl Clemson pulled out a terrifc spell getting rid of both Rutherforf and Farrow before taking another 2 and he ended up with figures of 5/51 off 19.3 overs. Willi looked to have the game when Clemson took the 9th wicket and Box Hill still needed 25 runs to win. Sam Blake joined the skipper Shepard and somehow they got home. Full credit to Shpeard he played a captain's knock when it was required.

It was a pleasure to watch both days of this match with what i consider the best two bowlers in the comp on there day in Blake and Clemson and also watching the great Craig Sheedy go about his work. But well done to Box Hill but i am going to tip Bundoora next week with Ayres and Dale to pull something special off again.

Re: subbies season 07/08

In the 2nds the favourted Endeavour Hills easily accounted for Altona at Grant Reserve.

Altona's attack at all cost batting line up let them down again with the Peake's destroying there batting and they were lucky to get to 126 after being 4/9.

On day 2 Altona started well having Endeavour 5/70 but the ever reliable Shane Peak scored another 60* to guide the vistors home.

I say well done to Endeavour Hills i think they were the best team all year and they fully deserve to be premiers. My vote for the player of the year in the seconds is in fact Shane Peake scoring close to 400 runs and taking over 20 wickets.
